The Chapin 22049XP is a 3-gallon industrial concrete sprayer. Before first use, it is critical to perform a water-only test to ensure the unit is leak-free and functioning correctly. Always wear protective gear (goggles, gloves, long sleeves, long pants, and full foot protection) when operating. Never use flammable, caustic, acidic, chlorine, bleach, or other corrosive chemicals.
Safety Warnings
- Explosion Hazard: Do not leave a pressurized sprayer in the hot sun. Heat causes pressure build-up.
- Chemical Safety: Never spray flammable, caustic, acidic, chlorine, bleach, or other corrosive solutions. Always read the chemical manufacturer's instructions.
- Pump Safety: Never stand with your face or body over the tank when pumping or loosening the pump. Never use tools to remove the pump if there is pressure in the sprayer.
Assembly
Hose to Tank:

- Ensure the white outlet tube is attached to the outlet tube adapter.
- Insert the outlet tube portion of the discharge assembly into the tank adapter.
- Firmly insert the outlet tube adapter into the tank adapter, lining up the tab with the notches.
- Tighten the retaining nut securely to the tank adapter.
Nozzle: Attach the nozzle to the shut-off handle or extension wand.
Pre-Use Check
- Check the tightness of the hose nut.
- Inspect the hose for deterioration, cracks, softness, or brittleness. Replace if necessary.
- Inspect the interior and exterior of the tank for signs of deterioration. If found, discard the tank immediately.
- Perform a water-only test: Pump 8-10 strokes and inspect for leaks.
- Direct the shut-off away from you and open to ensure the discharge is not clogged.
- If the unit passes, release pressure, empty the tank, and proceed to filling.
Filling
- Turn the pump handle counterclockwise and remove the pump.
- Prepare the spray solution according to the chemical label.
- Fill the tank to the proper gallon marker. Do not overfill.
- Ensure no grass or dirt is stuck to the barrel, then replace the pump and tighten securely.
Pressurizing and Spraying

- Tighten: Turn the handle clockwise to tighten.
- Pressurize: Pump until you feel resistance.
- Lock/Unlock: Push the handle down and turn 1/4 turn clockwise to lock. To release, turn 1/4 turn counterclockwise.
- Fatigue-Free Spraying: For constant spraying, push down on the shut-off handle and move the locking mechanism away from you. To release, squeeze the handle and move the locking mechanism back towards you.
Releasing Pressure
Your sprayer is equipped with a pressure relief/release valve. To release pressure:
- Lift and hold the cap until all air is exhausted, OR
- Turn the valve slowly counterclockwise until you hear air escaping and wait until all air is exhausted.
- Stay away from the sprayer until all air has escaped.
Care, Storage and Maintenance
- Cleaning: Follow the chemical manufacturer's instructions for cleaning. Rinse thoroughly with the recommended solvent.
- Rinsing: Open the shut-off and allow the solvent to run through the discharge assembly.
- Storage: Store the tank upside down with the pump removed in a warm, dry location.
- Lubrication: Periodically oil the pump by dropping 10-12 drops of light oil down the pump rod through the opening in the cover.
