Release Notes for Cisco Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controller (IOS XE 17.9.4a)

Important Information

This document provides release notes for the Cisco Catalyst 9800 Series Wireless Controller running Cisco IOS XE Amsterdam 17.9.4a. The base version of the Catalyst 9800 must be 17.9.4a to install the listed SMUs and APSPs.

Understanding Updates

The document distinguishes between two types of software updates:

• APSP (AP Service Pack): Designed to fix AP-specific issues. Installing an APSP does not require a WLC reload. Once installed, Access Points will proceed to update images and perform a staggered reboot.
• SMU (WLC Patch Fix): A patch for the Wireless Controller. These are categorized as COLD/RELOAD (requires a WLC reload) or HOT/HITLESS (seamless patch fix).

Installation Guidelines

Verify that you are installing the correct APSP for your specific AP model or for all APs as indicated. APSPs can be specific to certain AP models. Always ensure your base WLC code is 17.9.4a before proceeding.
