Quick guide from the manual

This document provides installation and operation instructions for the Danfoss GBC 90bar shut-off ball valve. The valve is designed for R 744 (CO2) refrigerants. Only authorized personnel should operate this valve, as improper closing can lead to excessive system pressure.

Installation and Brazing

When brazing the valve into the system, follow these guidelines:

Installation diagram from the manual
Installation diagram from the manual
  • No wet cloth is required during brazing.
  • Always use N2 gas from the opposite side of the soldering point.
  • Use a minimum of 5% Ag (silver) content in the solder.
  • Observe strict time and temperature limits based on valve size.
  • Maximum temperatures: 100°C (212°F), 150°C (300°F), and 850°C (1562°F) at specific points.

Schrader Valve and Cap Installation

If a Schrader valve is present, install it with a torque of approximately 0.3 Nm (0.2 ft-lbs). When tightening the cap, use the following torque values based on valve size:

  • 6s - 12s: 10 Nm (7.4 ft-lbs)
  • 16s - 22s: 15 Nm (11.0 ft-lbs)
  • 25s - 35s: 20 Nm (14.8 ft-lbs)
  • 42s: 32 Nm (23.6 ft-lbs)

Operation

The valve is operated by turning the stem 90 degrees. The valve is fully open when the slot is parallel to the flow direction and fully closed when perpendicular.

Technical Specifications

  • Refrigerant: R 744 (CO2)
  • Max working pressure (PS/MWP): 90 bar / 1305 psig
  • Media temperature range: -40°C to 100°C (-40°F to 212°F)

Common problems

Excessive pressure build-up

Ensure only authorized persons operate the valve and verify system design.

Overheating during brazing

Follow specific time and temperature limits; use N2 gas from the opposite side.

Before use

  • Verify refrigerant compatibility (R 744/CO2).
  • Ensure system pressure does not exceed 90 bar.
  • Check temperature range (-40°C to 100°C).
  • Ensure installation is performed by authorized personnel.
  • Verify Schrader valve torque (0.3 Nm) if present.
