Quick guide from the manual

The Darkglass Vintage Deluxe V3 is a bass preamp pedal designed to provide saturation and tone shaping. This guide outlines the control functions, equalization settings, and power requirements for optimal operation.

Controls

  • Blend: Mixes the clean input signal with the overdriven signal. The clean signal remains at unity gain, while the Level knob controls the volume of the overdriven signal.
  • Level: Sets the volume of the overdriven signal.
  • Drive: Sets the amount of saturation in the overdriven signal.
  • Grunt Switch: Selects between three different bass boost levels before the clipping stage to adjust low-frequency saturation.
  • Attack Switch: Adjusts the amount of treble content to saturate. The Boost setting emphasizes treble, Flat leaves it untouched, and Cut reduces high frequencies.

Equalization

The pedal features a 4-band EQ with specific frequency controls:

  • Low: +/-12dB at 100Hz.
  • Low Mids: +/-12dB at 1kHz (switchable to 500Hz).
  • Hi Mids: +/-12dB at 3kHz (switchable to 1.5kHz).
  • Treble: +/-12dB at 5kHz.

Use the Low Mids Switch to toggle the center frequency between 1kHz and 500Hz, and the Hi Mids Switch to toggle between 3kHz and 1.5kHz.

Power Requirements

The pedal requires a regulated 9V DC power supply with a center-negative plug. The unit has a current draw of 30mA. Using unregulated power supplies or higher voltages may result in noise or damage to the unit and will void the warranty.

Warranty and Support

Practical help

Common problems

Excessive noise or interference

Ensure you are using a regulated 9V DC power supply. If interference persists, try reorienting or relocating the receiving antenna of nearby equipment, or increasing the separation between the pedal and other electronic devices.

Unit not powering on or malfunctioning

Verify that the power supply is a regulated 9V DC adapter with a center-negative plug. Unregulated supplies or incorrect voltages can cause suboptimal performance or damage.

Before use

  • Ensure you have a regulated 9V DC power supply.
  • Verify the power supply plug is center-negative.
  • Register your product at mypedal.darkglass.com.
  • Locate the serial number on the back of the pedal for registration.

Specs in practice

Input Impedance: 500kΩ
Standard high-impedance input to maintain signal integrity from bass pickups.
Current Consumption: ~20mA (30mA draw)
The amount of power the pedal requires; ensure your power supply can provide at least 30mA.
Voltage: 9V DC (Center Negative)
The required power standard; using the wrong polarity or voltage will damage the unit.

Model compatibility

  • Requires regulated 9V DC power supply.
  • Unregulated power supplies may cause noise or damage.
  • Higher voltages than 9V DC will void the warranty and may damage the unit.
