This document provides instructions for the reconditioning and re-use of Etac StarLock, StabilAir, and Standard Air cushions. Before re-issuing the product to a new user, ensure it is thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and inspected for damage or leaks. Always use original Etac spare parts.
Cleaning the cover
Remove the cover from the cushion before cleaning. Turn the cover inside out and close the zipper.
- Machine wash: Wash in warm water. The standard cover can be washed at a maximum of 60°C, while the incontinence cover can be washed at a maximum of 80°C.
- Drying: Tumble dry on low temperature or line dry. Do not bleach.
Cleaning the cushion
Before cleaning, remove the cover and wash it separately. Inflate the cushion just enough so the cells contain air, then close the valve.
- Hand wash: Clean with soap, bicarbonate, or vinegar. Rinse with cold water.
- Machine wash (StarLock and Standard Air only): Wash in a machine with a mild detergent at 60°C for a maximum of 10 minutes. Rinse with cold water.
- Drying: After rinsing, overinflate the cushion and let it air dry for 24 hours, or dry in a drying cabinet on low heat. Do not spin-dry or tumble dry.
- StarLock specific: If water enters the bulb pump during machine washing, remove the pump, drain the water, and remount it.
Disinfection
Spot disinfection: Wipe the affected area with a 70% alcohol-based disinfectant or a chlorine-based solution (max 5000 ppm). Rinse thoroughly.
Complete product: Wipe the entire surface with a 70% alcohol-based disinfectant or a chlorine-based solution (max 5000 ppm). Rinse thoroughly.
Visual inspection and leak detection
Inspect the cushion for signs of damage or punctures. If the cushion loses air over a 24-hour period, investigate the source of the leak.

- Overinflate the cushion.
- Close the valve.
- Submerge the cushion under water and watch for a stream of air bubbles to identify the hole.
- Mark the damaged area with a permanent marker or a toothpick.
Depending on the type of damage, refer to repair instructions at www.etac.com.
