Quick guide for the FBT MUSE 218S subwoofer. Learn about connection, wiring, technical specifications, and setup requirements for this professional sound reinforcement system.

Quick answers from the manual

Quick answer

  • The MUSE 218S is a 1-way subwoofer system that requires an external DSP processor for operation, as it contains no internal crossover. It should be driven by an amplifier capable of 4000W RMS at 4 Ohms. p. 1, 3

Key actions

  • Connect using a 4-wire Speakon cable, mapping amplifier channel 1 to 1+/1- and channel 2 to 2+/2-. p. 3

Problems and fixes

Quick Guide

The FBT MUSE 218S is a professional ground-stack subwoofer designed for high-performance sound reinforcement. Important: This unit does not contain an internal crossover. You must use an external DSP processor to ensure optimal performance and transducer safety. Always use 4-wire Speakon cables for proper channel separation and connectivity.

Product Description

The MUSE 218S is a direct radiation ground subwoofer featuring two 18-inch (460mm) B&C long-excursion speakers with 4-inch voice coils. It is built with an 18mm birch plywood enclosure, scratch-resistant paint, and a heavy-duty metal grille. It is designed to extend and reinforce low frequencies, particularly for the MUSE 210 line array.

Connection and Wiring

The rear panel features two Neutrik NL4M Speakon female connectors (Input and Output). Because there is no internal crossover, the speakers are connected directly to these terminals.

Connection Panel
Connection Panel
  • 4-Wire Configuration: Use a 4-wire Speakon cable between the amplifier and the first speaker. Connect amplifier output channel 1 to terminals 1+/1- and channel 2 to terminals 2+/2-.
  • Linking Speakers: When linking multiple speakers, use 4-pole Speakon cables. Note that speakers 1 and 3 will be connected in parallel, as will speakers 2 and 4. Ensure your amplifier is capable of driving the resulting impedance.
  • Cable Recommendations: Use 2.5mm² cable for lengths up to 20 meters, and 4mm² cable for lengths exceeding 20 meters.

Technical Specifications

The system is designed for high-output applications with the following key parameters:

Practical help

Common problems

No sound or poor acoustic performance

Ensure an external DSP processor is used. The subwoofer has no internal crossover and requires external processing.

Incorrect channel routing

Verify that you are using a 4-wire Speakon cable and that the amplifier channels are correctly mapped to terminals 1+/1- and 2+/2-.

Before use

  • Verify amplifier power is 4000W RMS @ 4 Ohm.
  • Ensure an external DSP processor is connected and configured.
  • Use 4-wire Speakon cables for proper signal routing.
  • Check cable gauge: 2.5mm² for 20m.
  • Ensure the surface is stable for ground-stacking.
