This manual covers the installation and usage of the Focal Sub 10 and Sub 12 series subwoofers. Before installation, ensure you have the correct enclosure type (sealed or bass-reflex) for your specific model. Always secure the subwoofer firmly in your vehicle to prevent it from becoming a projectile in the event of an accident.

Product Description

The Focal Sub 10 and Sub 12 series are high-performance subwoofers designed for automotive audio systems. They feature a polypropylene cone for rigidity, a ferrite magnet, and a butyl surround for durability. The series includes standard, Dual, and Slim variants, each optimized for specific enclosure types.

Installation

Mounting: Check the available space for fitting the speaker driver before cutting. Use suitable screws to attach the subwoofer to your closed or bass-reflex cabinet. Ensure the enclosure is securely attached to the floor or chassis of the vehicle.

Wiring: Connect your subwoofer to the amplifier using the screw terminals located on the rear of the speaker. Ensure the polarity (+/-) is correct. Do not modify or replace provided cables or harnesses.

Speaker Driver Orientation: Ensure the woofer is pointing towards an open space to achieve the best acoustic performance. Ensure that no objects are positioned across the grille, as this could damage the speaker drivers.

Break-in Period

To ensure the mechanical elements work in harmony, a running-in period is recommended for new subwoofers. Operate the system with a medium volume setting using music that covers the full bandwidth of frequencies (sub-bass through treble). This period should last for a few weeks to gain the full potential of the subwoofer.

Safety Instructions

• Do not listen to loudspeakers at high volumes for long periods to avoid hearing damage. Exposure to volumes over 85 dB for more than one hour can cause irreparable damage.
• If a fuse is included in the kit or harness, use only the same rating in case of replacement.
• Clear the speaker drivers of any metal shavings and dust particles before mounting.
• Clean the area carefully before mounting the speaker drivers.

Technical Specifications

The series includes various models with different power handling and impedance ratings. Generally, the Sub 10 models feature 25cm diameters, while Sub 12 models feature 30cm diameters. Power handling varies by model, ranging from 230W RMS to 300W RMS nominal power. Always refer to the specific technical data table for your model to ensure compatibility with your amplifier.
