Quick guide from the manual

This guide provides essential instructions for operating your Hamilton Beach Professional 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker. Before first use, wash the carafe, lid, removable water reservoir, filter basket, and measuring scoop in hot, soapy water, then rinse and dry.

Parts and Features

The coffee maker includes a removable water reservoir, a swing-out filter basket holder, a 12-cup glass carafe, and a control panel with programmable features. The control panel allows you to set the time, program a start time, adjust brew strength (Classic, Bold, Robust, 1-4 Cups), and customize keep-warm settings (time and temperature).

How to Make Coffee

  1. Plug the unit into an outlet and set the current time using the HR and MIN buttons.
  2. Fill the water reservoir with the desired amount of water.
  3. Open the swing-out filter basket holder, insert a #4 cone filter, and add ground coffee. Use one tablespoon (5g) per cup.
  4. Close the filter basket holder.
  5. Select your brew strength and keep-warm settings if desired.
  6. Press the BREW I/O button to start the brewing cycle.

Pause and Serve: You can remove the carafe during the brewing cycle to pour a cup; the flow will stop momentarily. The carafe must be replaced within 20 seconds to prevent overflow.

Programming

To set an automatic brew time, press the PROGRAM button until 19:99 flashes, then use the HR and MIN buttons to set the desired time. Press the PROGRAM button again to activate; a green LED will illuminate.

Care and Cleaning

Clean the coffee maker at least once a month (weekly for hard water areas) to remove mineral deposits:

  • Unplug the unit.
  • Pour at least 2 cups (473 mL) of white vinegar into the water reservoir.
  • Plug in and press the BREW STRENGTH button repeatedly to select Clean.
  • Press the BREW I/O button to start the cycle.
  • After the cycle finishes, run 2-3 cycles with clean water only.

The carafe, lid, filter basket, and measuring scoop are dishwasher-safe (do not use the SANI setting). Do not clean the water reservoir in the dishwasher.

Troubleshooting

  • Filter basket overflows: Ensure you are not using too much coffee, coffee ground too finely, or that the carafe is properly seated.
  • Unit will not turn on: Check if the reservoir is empty, the unit is unplugged, or if there was a power surge.
  • FIL H2O on display: The water reservoir is empty or not properly seated.
