Quick guide from the manual

The Harvia Linear 22 GreenFlame is a wood-burning sauna stove designed for efficient heating. Before first use, it is mandatory to perform a burn-off procedure outdoors to cure the protective paint, as this will produce smoke. Ensure the sauna room is properly ventilated and that all safety distances are maintained.

Stove parts

The stove consists of the main body, fire chamber, ash box, and connection openings for the flue. The ash box should be emptied before every heating session to ensure proper airflow and protect the fire grate.

Installation

Safety Distances: Maintain the required safety distances to combustible materials as specified in the manual. If the stove is installed on a flammable floor, use a protective bedding. The stove is not suitable for shared flue systems.

Ventilation: Proper ventilation is essential. Fresh air intake should be near the floor, and the exhaust outlet should be near the ceiling, as far from the stove as possible.

Flue Connection: The stove can be connected to a masonry flue via the rear or upper opening. Ensure the connection is airtight using fireproof mineral wool. If using a Harvia steel chimney, follow the specific installation instructions provided with the chimney.

Usage

Sauna Stones: Use only stones intended for sauna use (10-15 cm diameter). Place larger stones at the bottom and smaller ones on top, ensuring air can circulate between them. Wash stones before use.

Heating: Use dry, chopped firewood. Start the fire with kindling on top of the firewood to reduce emissions. The ash box can be used to regulate draught; keep it slightly open during ignition and close it once the sauna is heated to maintain temperature and reduce wood consumption.

Water Container: If your model includes a water container, keep it as full as possible when the stove is hot to prevent damage. Clean it regularly with water and a soft cloth.

Maintenance

  • Ash Box: Empty before every use.
  • Stones: Rearrange at least once a year; replace disintegrated stones.
  • Smoke Canals: Clean soot and ashes occasionally through the soot openings.
  • Chimney: Sweep regularly, especially if the stove has not been used for a long time.

Troubleshooting

If there is no draught, check for leaks in the flue connection, ensure the flue is not cold, and verify that there is no low pressure in the room caused by extractor fans. If the sauna does not heat up, check if the room size exceeds the stove's capacity, if there is too much non-insulated wall surface, or if the firewood is moist.

Practical help

Common problems

No draught in the flue / Smoke enters the sauna

Check for leaks in the flue connection, ensure the flue is not cold, check for low pressure caused by extractor fans, or ensure the ash box is not full.

Sauna does not heat up

Verify the sauna room volume is within the stove's capacity (9-18 m³), check for excessive non-insulated wall surfaces, or ensure firewood is dry and of good quality.

Stove emits smell

Normal during the first heating (curing of protective paint). If persistent, check for external odors or debris.

Before use

  • Empty the ash box.
  • Ensure no unnecessary items are in the sauna or within safety distances.
  • Check that the flue has good draught.
  • Use dry, chopped firewood (8-15 cm diameter).
  • Ensure stones are properly placed (10-15 cm diameter) with air circulation.
