Device Description
The 18DSL is a cordless angle drill designed for driving/removing wood screws and drilling into various metals and woods.
Charging
Before using the tool, charge the battery using the specified charger. Connect the charger to a power source, insert the battery, and monitor the pilot lamp. A continuously lit red lamp indicates charging is in progress, while a blinking red lamp indicates charging is complete. If the lamp flickers, check for foreign objects in the battery connector.
Operation
Ensure the switch is in the off position before inserting the battery. Use the auxiliary handle for better control. When using long drill bits, start at a low speed with the bit tip in contact with the workpiece. Always hold the tool firmly by insulated gripping surfaces.
Maintenance and Inspection
Regularly inspect the tool for dullness and sharpen or replace bits as needed. Check all mounting screws for tightness. Keep the motor winding clean and free from oil or water. Carbon brushes are consumable parts; replace them when worn near the wear limit using HiKOKI Carbon Brush Code No. 999054.
Safety
Always wear eye protection. Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Do not operate in explosive atmospheres. Keep children and bystanders away. Use only designated battery packs and chargers. If the motor stops due to overload, release the switch and eliminate the cause before restarting.
Storage
Store the tool and battery in a cool, dry place (below 40°C) out of reach of children. Ensure lithium-ion batteries are fully charged before long-term storage.

Common problems
Motor stops during operation
This is likely the protection function. If the battery is empty, charge it. If the tool is overloaded, release the switch and remove the cause. If the battery is overheated, let it cool down.
Pilot lamp on charger flickers
Check for foreign objects in the charger's battery connector. If none are found, the battery or charger may be malfunctioning; contact an authorized service center.
Battery usage time is extremely short
The battery may be exhausted. Try charging and using it 2-5 times to recover capacity. If it remains short, replace the battery.
Before use
- Ensure the work area is clean and well-lit.
- Check that the battery is fully charged.
- Ensure the switch is in the off position before inserting the battery.
- Verify that the drill bit is securely mounted in the keyless chuck.
- Ensure the auxiliary handle is properly installed.
- Check that the work area is free of hidden obstructions like electrical wiring or pipes.
