Safety Information

Warning: Gasoline is extremely flammable and explosive. Always refuel outdoors in a well-ventilated area with the engine off and cool. Never smoke or allow sparks near fuel. Keep the engine and equipment free of debris to prevent fire hazards. Never modify the engine governor settings.

Setup

Fuel and Oil: The engine is shipped without fuel or oil. Use a 4-stroke, high-detergent, premium quality motor oil (minimum SJ grade). SAE 10W-30 is recommended for general use. Oil capacity is 500 ml (17 oz). Use unleaded gasoline with a minimum of 87 octane. Do not use E15 or E85 fuel.

Operation

Identify your starting system (Auto-Choke, Primer, or Manual Choke) to follow the correct procedure. For all systems, ensure the blade control is engaged (if on a mower) and the spark plug wire is connected. If using an electric start, ensure the key is fully inserted. If the engine fails to start, check fuel levels, spark plug connection, and ensure the fuel shut-off valve is open.

Maintenance and Storage

Regular maintenance is essential for performance. Follow the maintenance schedule provided in the manual, including checking oil levels every 5 hours, changing oil, servicing the air filter, and checking the spark plug. When storing for more than 30 days, use a fuel stabilizer or run the engine until the fuel tank is empty to prevent carburetor damage.

Troubleshooting

If the engine fails to start, check for a disconnected spark plug, empty fuel tank, or closed fuel shut-off valve. If the engine runs erratically, check for a loose spark plug boot, dirty air cleaner, or blocked fuel filter. Always allow the engine to cool before performing any maintenance or cleaning.

Practical help

Common problems

Engine fails to start

Check if blade control is engaged, spark plug boot is connected, fuel tank is full, fuel shut-off valve is open, or if the engine needs priming/choking.

Engine runs erratic

Check for loose spark plug boot, blocked fuel filter, plugged gas cap vent, dirty air cleaner, or if choke is applied.

Engine overheats

Check if oil level is low or if airflow is restricted by debris.

Engine stalls with full tank

The carbon filter in the fuel cap may be dirty or blocked; replace the fuel cap.

Before use

  • Check engine oil level on a level surface.
  • Ensure fuel tank is filled with fresh, clean gasoline.
  • Verify spark plug wire is securely connected.
  • Ensure all shields and guards are in place.
  • Clear debris from engine and muffler area.
  • Ensure blade control is engaged (if applicable).
