This manual provides essential instructions for the safe operation, assembly, and maintenance of your Husqvarna TS 138L lawn tractor. Always read and understand the safety rules before operating the machine. Key safety precautions include operating on slopes (15° maximum), keeping children away from the mowing area, and handling gasoline with extreme care.
Assembly
Your tractor is partially assembled at the factory. Follow these steps to complete the setup:
- Battery: Connect the red cable to the positive (+) terminal first, then the black cable to the negative (-) terminal.
- Steering Wheel: Follow the assembly instructions in Figure 2, ensuring the steering mount is flat on the dash and screws are not overtightened.
- Seat: Install the seat using the provided bolts and winged washers. Connect the wiring harness to the seat switch.
- Hood Scoop: Snap the hood scoop into place as shown in Figure 6.
- Checklist: Before operation, verify tire pressure, check belt routing, ensure the transmission is engaged, and purge the transmission if necessary.
Operation
Familiarize yourself with the controls (Figure 7), including the attachment lift lever, clutch/brake pedal, parking brake, throttle/choke control, and motion control lever. Always operate the engine at full throttle for best performance. Use the Reverse Operation System (ROS) only when necessary and when the area is clear of bystanders.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity of your tractor. Refer to the Maintenance Schedule for intervals:

- Engine: Check oil level before each use. Change oil every 50 hours. Clean air screen and cooling fins regularly.
- Blades: Keep blades sharp and replace if bent or damaged.
- Battery: Keep terminals clean and tight.
- Cleaning: Use the deck washout port after each use to keep the mower deck clean.
Service and Adjustments
If the tractor requires service, refer to the following sections:

- Mower Removal/Installation: Follow the steps in Figure 25 to remove or install the mower deck.
- Leveling: Ensure the mower deck is level side-to-side and front-to-back for optimal cutting results.
- Belts: Check V-belts for wear and replace if necessary.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues, consult the troubleshooting section. Common problems include the engine failing to start (check fuel, spark plug, and battery), loss of power (check for grass buildup under the deck), and uneven cutting (check blade condition and deck levelness).
