This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective operation of your Ryobi 18V Chain Saw. Before use, ensure you have read all safety warnings, particularly regarding kickback. Always wear appropriate safety gear, including eye, hearing, and head protection, and non-slip gloves. Ensure the chain is properly tensioned and the oil tank is filled with Ryobi Bar and Chain Lubricant before starting.
Safety rules
Kickback: Kickback occurs when the moving chain contacts an object at the upper tip of the guide bar or when wood pinches the chain. To minimize risk, hold the saw firmly with both hands, maintain a steady cutting speed, and ensure the cutting area is free of obstructions.
General Safety: Never operate the saw with one hand. Keep all body parts away from the chain. Do not operate in rain or wet conditions. Always maintain a proper stance and do not overreach. Remove the battery pack before cleaning, servicing, or transporting the unit.
Assembly
The product is shipped completely assembled. Before first use, inspect the unit for any damaged or missing parts. Ensure the battery pack is removed during any assembly or adjustment tasks.
Operation
Battery Installation: Align the raised rib on the battery pack with the groove in the chain saw's battery port. Ensure the latches snap into place securely.

Starting and Stopping: Place the saw on a flat surface. Press and hold the lock-out button, then squeeze the switch trigger. To stop, release the switch trigger; the lock-out button will automatically reset.
Cutting Techniques:
- Felling: Plan your retreat path. Cut a notch about 1/3 the diameter of the tree, then make the backcut.
- Bucking: Cut fallen trees to length. Support logs if necessary. Always stand on the uphill side when working on a slope.
- Limbing and Pruning: Work slowly with a firm grip. Do not cut from a ladder or above chest height.
Maintenance
Chain Tension: A correctly tensioned chain has no slack on the underside of the guide bar but can be turned by hand without binding. To adjust, loosen the chain cover screw, turn the tensioning screw, and retighten the cover screw.

Sharpening: Use a 5/32 in. diameter round file. Keep the file level with the top plate of the tooth and stroke towards the front corner. Ensure all cutters are uniform in length.
Guide Bar: Reverse the bar periodically to distribute wear. Lubricate the sprocket tip weekly with a grease syringe.
Troubleshooting
If the bar and chain run hot or smoke, check the chain tension and ensure the oil tank is not empty. If the motor runs but the chain does not rotate, check the chain tension and inspect the assembly for damage.
