Quick guide from the manual
This manual provides essential safety and operational instructions for the Ryobi 18V Chain Saw (models CCW180LBC / CCW180). This tool is designed for occasional light-duty use, such as limbing, pruning, and felling small trees up to 7 inches in diameter. Always read the full manual before use to prevent serious injury.
Safety
The chain saw is intended for two-handed use only. Never operate with one hand. Always wear appropriate safety gear, including eye, hearing, and head protection, as well as non-slip gloves and heavy-duty, cut-resistant clothing. Do not operate in rain, snow, or wet conditions. Be aware of the risk of kickback, which can occur if the tip of the guide bar contacts an object or if the wood pinches the chain.
Assembly
The product is shipped fully assembled. Before each use, inspect the unit for damaged, missing, or loose parts. Ensure the battery pack is removed before performing any assembly, maintenance, or cleaning to prevent accidental starting.
Operation
To install the battery, align the raised rib on the battery pack with the groove in the chain saw's battery port and ensure the latches snap into place. To start, press and hold the lock-out button, then squeeze the switch trigger. Always maintain a firm, two-handed grip with your body to the left of the chain line. When felling trees, ensure a clear work area and a planned retreat path.
Chain Oil System
Use only Ryobi Bar and Chain Lubricant. Fill the oil tank before starting. Depress the oil tank cap several times to prime the system before use, and continue to depress it every 20-30 seconds while cutting to maintain lubrication.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for safety and performance. Always remove the battery before servicing. Keep the chain sharp and properly tensioned. A correctly tensioned chain should have no sag on the underside of the guide bar but must be able to be turned by hand without binding. When sharpening, ensure all cutters are uniform and filed to the specified angles.
Troubleshooting
If the bar and chain run hot or smoke, check for over-tightened chain tension or an empty oil tank. If the motor runs but the chain does not rotate, check the chain tension and inspect the guide bar and chain assembly for damage.
