This manual provides essential safety, operation, and maintenance instructions for the Ryobi 12V Rotary Tool (TVM01). Always read the full manual before use to prevent serious injury. The tool is designed for grinding, sanding, wire brushing, polishing, carving, and cutting.
Charging the tool
The tool is equipped with a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. To charge:
- Turn off the tool.
- Insert the USB-C cable into the tool.
- Connect the cable to a powered USB port or a USB power adapter (not included).
- The LED will flash green while charging and remain solid green when fully charged.
- If the LED flashes red, an error has occurred; remove the cable and try again later.
Installing and removing accessories
The tool features a quick-change collet for 1/8 in. shank accessories.
- To install: Turn off the tool. Depress the spindle lock button. Loosen the collet sleeve by rotating counterclockwise. Insert the accessory shank until it bottoms out, then pull it out 1/16 in. to allow for thermal expansion. Rotate the sleeve clockwise until it clicks and grips the shank.
- To remove: Turn off the tool, loosen the collet sleeve, and remove the accessory.
Speed settings
The tool has a speed range of 5,000-35,000 RPM, adjustable via a dial numbered 1 to 5:
- Speed (1): 5,000 RPM
- Speed (2): 12,500 RPM
- Speed (3): 20,000 RPM
- Speed (4): 27,000 RPM
- Speed (5): 35,000 RPM
Refer to the application speed recommendations table in the manual to select the appropriate speed for your material and accessory.
Safety and maintenance
Always wear eye protection with side shields. Keep the tool away from flammable materials. Do not force the tool; let the speed do the work. If the tool is overloaded, it will automatically shut off; wait 5 seconds and restart. For storage longer than 30 days, store in a cool, dry place in a discharged condition.

Common problems
Tool automatically shuts off
The tool is overloaded or forced. Wait 5 seconds, slide the switch to OFF, then back to ON to resume.
LED flashes red during charging
An error has occurred. Remove the USB cable and attempt to charge the tool later.
Accessory is not balanced
Slightly loosen the quick-change collet, rotate the accessory 1/4 turn, and retighten until balanced.
Before use
- Ensure the tool is fully charged.
- Check that the accessory is compatible and undamaged.
- Ensure the collet is securely tightened.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (eye protection, dust mask).
- Secure the workpiece with clamps or a vise.
