The Tannoy VXP Series consists of powered sound reinforcement loudspeakers (15HP, 12, 8, and 6-inch models) featuring integrated LAB GRUPPEN IDEAA Class-D amplification. This guide provides essential information for safe installation, operation, and maintenance of these units.
Important Safety Instructions
- Read, keep, and follow all instructions and warnings.
- Do not use the apparatus near water.
- Clean only with a dry cloth.
- Do not block ventilation openings; install according to manufacturer instructions.
- Do not install near heat sources like radiators or amplifiers.
- Ensure the mains plug or appliance coupler remains readily operable.
- Refer all servicing to qualified personnel.
Controls
The rear panel of the VXP loudspeaker features the following controls and connections:

- INPUT: Balanced XLR audio input.
- LINK: Balanced XLR audio output for daisy-chaining multiple speakers.
- FILTER: Switch to engage a high-pass filter (HPF) or set to full range (FR).
- POWER Mode: Switch between AUTO (standby after 20 mins of no signal) and MAN (manual) modes.
- LEVEL: Recessed potentiometer for output volume control.
- LED INDICATORS: Displays power, signal, and limiter status.
- POWER Switch: Main rocker switch to turn the unit on/off.
- MAINS: Neutrik powerCON connector for AC power.
Operation
Power Modes
The VXP series offers two power modes:
- AUTO Mode: Default setting. Engages Auto Power Down (APD) if no signal is detected for 20 minutes. Auto Power On (APO) reactivates the module within 2 seconds of detecting a signal.
- MANUAL Mode: Disables auto-power-down and auto-power-on functions, allowing for external power sequencing.
LED Functions
- LIM/PROT: Lights up when the limiter is active. If it lights continuously, the system is overdriven.
- SIG: Lights up when an audio signal is present.
- PWR: Green (Active), Red (Standby), Amber (Temperature protection active).
Cooling
Do not install in enclosed spaces. Ensure at least 100 mm (4 inches) of space around all sides of the product for convection cooling. The unit relies on the rear panel heat sink.
Equalization and Arraying
Equalization should be applied gently and only to compensate for difficult acoustic environments. For arraying, place speakers with the 30-degree angled rear panels together to minimize dispersion pattern overlap and ensure a smooth transition.

Technical Specifications
The VXP series features a universal power supply (70 V to 265 V, 50/60 Hz). Maximum SPL varies by model (123 dB to 131 dB peak). All models feature Class-D amplification and Neutrik powerCON connectivity.
Practical help
Common problems
The system is being overdriven. Reduce the input level or the output level of the mixer/source.
Check power connection, ensure the PWR LED is green, and verify the signal source is connected to the INPUT jack.
Ensure at least 100mm of clearance around all sides of the speaker for proper convection cooling.
Before use
- Verify AC power source is between 70V and 265V.
- Use high-quality professional speaker cables with 1/4" TS or twist-locking plugs.
- Ensure the POWER switch is set to the desired mode (AUTO or MAN).
- Check that the FILTER switch is set correctly (HPF or FR).
- Ensure at least 100mm of ventilation space around the rear panel.
Specs in practice
- Frequency Response
- The range of frequencies the speaker can reproduce; varies by model and filter mode.
- Nominal Dispersion
- The angle of sound coverage (conical); 90 degrees for most models, 75 degrees for the 15HP.
Images and diagrams
- The rear panel diagram identifies the INPUT and LINK XLR jacks, the FILTER switch, the POWER mode switch, the LEVEL control, the LED indicators, the main POWER switch, and the MAINS powerCON connector.
Model compatibility
- Compatible with AC mains from 70V to 265V (+/- 10%) at 50 or 60 Hz.
- Designed for professional sound reinforcement applications.
