This document provides essential instructions for installing The Home Depot 0318-L pendant light. Key requirements include ensuring all installation work is performed by an accredited professional and that the power supply is shut off at the circuit breaker before beginning. Always use the specified bulb wattage to prevent damage.
Placement guidelines
Proper placement is crucial for optimal lighting:

- Kitchen Island: Center a linear pendant over the island. Use one pendant for every 24 inches of island length. Fixtures should hang at least 30 inches above the countertop.
- Dining Room Table: Fixtures should hang at least 30 inches above the table. Use a fixture that is 12 inches narrower than the width of the table.
- Open Areas: The bottom of the fixture should hang at least 7.5 feet from the floor. Ensure there is clearance for any opening doors.
Preparation for installation
Before starting, ensure you have all parts from the yellow bag. Shut off power at the circuit breaker and remove the old fixture and mounting strap. Attach the new mounting strap (A) to the junction box using mounting screws (B). Test the canopy (G) height by passing it over the canopy loop (H) and adjusting the nipple (F) until the canopy loop collar (I) fits snugly.

Assembly
Measure the required chain length for the desired hanging height. Use pliers to remove excess chain links. Attach chain connectors (K1 & K2) to the chain (J). Connect one end to the top loop (L) and the other to the canopy loop (H). Feed the fixture wires through the chain, pulling them taut, and trim to the desired length plus 8 to 10 inches.
Connecting the wires
Have an assistant support the fixture's weight during wiring. Connect the wires as follows:

- Hot to Hot: Transparent wire with black inner thread, black wire, or smooth wire.
- Neutral to Neutral: Transparent wire with white inner thread, white wire, or ribbed wire.
- Ground to Ground: Transparent wire with green inner thread, green wire, or copper wire.
Twist the ends of the wire pairs together and secure with a wire connector. If no house ground wire is available, wrap the fixture's ground wire around the ground screw (E) on the mounting bracket.
Finishing the installation
Push the canopy (G) up to the ceiling and secure it by threading the canopy loop collar (I) onto the canopy loop (H). Slide the shade (P) and washer (N) over the socket (M) and secure with the socket ring (O). Install the light bulb according to the fixture's specifications and restore power.
