This document provides essential installation and safety instructions for the Wayfair 0508-1W Armed Sconce. Important: All installation work should be performed by an accredited professional. Always shut off the power supply at the fuse or circuit breaker before beginning any work. Use only the specified bulbs and do not exceed the maximum wattage.
Preparing for Installation
Carefully remove the fixture from the carton and locate the yellow bag containing all parts. Before starting, ensure the power is off at the circuit breaker and remove the old fixture from the wall, including the old mounting strap.
- Mounting Strap (A): Contains several pairs of threaded holes and two sets of mounting screws (B & C). Tighten the hex nuts holding screws (B) if necessary.
- Junction Box: Place the mounting strap (A) against your junction box. Position the backplate (D) over the strap to align mounting screws (B) with the holes in the backplate to ensure the fixture hangs straight.
- Securing: Pull house wires through the center of the mounting strap (A) and secure the strap to the junction box using mounting screws (C).
Connecting the Wires
Have an assistant support the weight of the fixture while you complete the wiring. Refer to the wiring diagram to connect the fixture wires to the house power supply wires:

- Hot to Hot: Connect the transparent wire with black inner thread, black wire, or smooth wire to the house hot wire.
- Neutral to Neutral: Connect the transparent wire with white inner thread, white wire, or ribbed wire to the house neutral wire.
- Ground to Ground: Connect the transparent wire with green inner thread, green wire, or copper wire to the house ground wire.
- No House Ground: If there is no ground wire from the junction box, locate the ground screw (E) on the mounting bracket and wrap the fixture's ground wire around it. Tighten the screw securely.
Twist the ends of the wire pairs together and secure them with a wire connector, ensuring all twists are in the same direction. Tuck the wires into the junction box.
Finishing the Installation

- Place the backplate (D) over the mounting strap (A) so that mounting screws (B) protrude through the holes.
- Secure the backplate to the mounting strap using the decorative nuts (F). Twist until the backplate is snug against the wall.
- Install the light bulb (not provided) according to the fixture's specifications.
- Raise the glass shade (I) into the hardware cover (G) and twist tightly with screws (H).
- Turn on the power and test the fixture.
Lighting Placement Tips
For optimal lighting, consider the following guidelines:
- Kitchen Islands: Center linear pendants over the island. Use one pendant for every 24 inches of island length. Fixtures should hang at least 30 inches above the countertop.
- Dining Tables: Fixtures should hang at least 30 inches above the table. Use a fixture that is 12 inches narrower than the width of the table.
- Open Areas: The bottom of the fixture should hang at least 7.5 feet from the floor. Ensure there is clearance for any opening doors.
