Important Information for Android 13 Update
This document provides critical release notes for the Android 13 GMS update for the Zebra PS20 family of products. Warning: Upgrading to Android 13 involves a change in data encryption from Full Disk Encryption (FDE) to File Based Encryption (FBE). Failure to use the correct conversion package or EMM enterprise persistence will result in a data wipe. Always read the 'Migrating to Android 13' documentation on TechDocs before proceeding.
Migration to Android 13
To migrate without data loss, you must use the appropriate Zebra Conversion Package based on your current OS version:
- Oreo: Requires conversion package 11-99-99.00-RG-U510-STD-HEL-04. Devices with LG version earlier than 01-23-18.00-OG-U15-STD must be upgraded first.
- Pie: Must be upgraded to Android 10 or 11 before starting the migration.
- Android 10: Requires conversion package 11-99-99.00-RG-U510-STD-HEL-04.
- Android 11: Requires conversion package 11-99-99.00-RG-U510-STD-HEL-04.
Software Packages
The update includes several packages for different needs:
- HE_FULL_UPDATE: Full package update.
- HE_DELTA_UPDATE: Delta package for updating from previous releases.
- Reset Packages: Available for erasing User Data only or both User Data and Enterprise Partitions.
New Features
- Scanner Framework: Updated Google MLKit Library to version 16.0.0.
- DataWedge: Added Picklist + OCR feature for capturing barcodes or single words.
- Fusion: Added support for multiple root certificates for Radius server validation.
- Wireless Analyzer: Stability fixes, improved analysis reports, and error handling for Roaming and Voice features.
- MX 13.1: Includes new capabilities in Access Manager (permission control) and Power Manager (power off and recovery mode access).
Known Constraints
- Data Wipe Risk: Upgrading without the FDE-FBE conversion package or EMM persistence will cause data loss.
- NFC Initialization: An OS-level exception may occur during NFC initialization, causing a crash log upon reboot. This is temporary and resolves itself without functionality loss.
- Volume Restrictions: Scanner and keypad volume restrictions may not persist after the A13 upgrade.
- DHCP Option 119: Currently not supported in this release.

Common problems
Use the FDE-FBE conversion package or EMM enterprise persistence (AirWatch, SOTI) to maintain data persistence.
This is a known OS-level exception related to NFC initialization. The system will retry and initialize successfully; no action is required.
This is a known restriction for the May A11 LG version. A fix will be provided in an upcoming conversion package.
Before use

- Check your current OS version (Oreo, Pie, A10, or A11).
- Read the 'Migrating to Android 13' guide on TechDocs.
- Ensure you have the correct conversion package for your specific source OS.
- Back up critical data before starting any OS update.
Model compatibility
- Compatible with PS20 family devices.
- Requires specific conversion packages based on the source OS version.
- EMM persistence (AirWatch, SOTI) is only supported when migrating from A11 to A13.
