Quick guide from the manual

The Adastra BC-series are indoor speakers designed for low impedance installations. This manual covers the installation, connection, and safety guidelines for the BC3, BC4, BC5, BC6, and BC8 models. Ensure your amplifier is compatible with the speaker's impedance and power ratings before operation.

Installation

Each speaker is supplied with a wall-mounting bracket that allows for 90° lateral adjustment.

  • Marking: Use the bracket to mark out the fixing points on the wall or ceiling.
  • Fixing: Use appropriate fixings suitable for the mounting surface, ensuring they are strong enough to support the speaker's weight.
  • Mounting: Once the bracket is fitted, support the speaker in position and attach it at the top and bottom using the supplied screw caps.
  • Adjustment: Adjust the speaker to the required angle.
  • Caution: Do not over-tighten the screw caps, as this can cause the threaded inserts to fail.

Connection

The speakers feature 2 spring terminals at the rear of the enclosure.

  • Ensure the amplifier is switched off before making connections.
  • Strip the speaker wire ends.
  • Connect the positive (+) wire to the red terminal.
  • Connect the negative (-) wire to the black terminal.
  • Amplifier Matching: Refer to your amplifier manufacturer's manual to ensure the total speaker impedance (Ω) is not less than the recommended load. Ensure the amplifier does not deliver more power than the speaker can handle (RMS power rating is recommended).

Safety and Caution

  • Environment: Intended for indoor use only. Avoid moist or dusty environments.
  • Placement: Avoid excess heat and exposure to direct sunlight.
  • Overload: Take care not to overload the speakers, as HF drivers are especially prone to damage through overload.

Specifications

The BC-series includes five models with varying sizes and power handling capabilities:

Dimensions for BC3 and BC4 models

  • BC3: 75mm (3") woofer, 60W max, 30W RMS.
  • BC4: 100mm (4") woofer, 70W max, 35W RMS.
  • BC5: 130mm (5.25") woofer, 90W max, 45W RMS.
  • BC6: 165mm (6.5") woofer, 120W max, 60W RMS.
  • BC8: 165mm (6.5") woofer, 180W max, 90W RMS.

Practical help

Common problems

Threaded inserts failing

Do not over-tighten the screw caps when mounting the speaker.

HF driver damage

Avoid overloading the speakers; ensure the amplifier power does not exceed the speaker's max power rating.

Amplifier damage

Ensure the total speaker impedance (Ω) is not less than the minimum load recommended by the amplifier manufacturer.

Before use

  • Check that the wall or ceiling surface can support the speaker weight.
  • Ensure the amplifier is switched off before connecting wires.
  • Strip the speaker wire ends properly.
  • Verify that the amplifier's impedance matches the speaker requirements.
  • Confirm the amplifier's power output is within the speaker's RMS power range.

Images and diagrams

  • The connection diagram shows the rear spring terminals with clear + and - polarity markings.
  • The installation diagram illustrates the wall bracket and the 90-degree lateral adjustment capability.

Model compatibility

  • Designed for low impedance installations.
  • Requires an external amplifier.
  • Not suitable for outdoor use.
