This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and efficient use of the Bosch GEX 40-150 Professional random orbit sander. Always ensure the tool is disconnected from the power source before performing any maintenance or adjustments. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety goggles and a dust mask, especially when working with hazardous materials.
Product description
The GEX 40-150 is a random orbit sander designed for dry sanding of wood, plastic, metal, filler, and varnished surfaces. Models with electronic control are also suitable for polishing. It is not intended for bench-mounted use.
Assembly
Changing the Sanding Sheet: To remove the sanding sheet (10), lift it from the side and pull it from the sanding pad (8). Clean the sanding pad of dirt and dust before attaching a new sheet. The sanding pad features a hook-and-loop fastening system. Ensure the holes in the sanding sheet align with the holes in the sanding pad for optimal dust extraction.

Changing the Sanding Pad: If the sanding pad (8) is damaged, it must be replaced immediately. Remove the sanding sheet, unscrew the screw (11), and remove the pad. Attach the new pad and retighten the screw finger-tight. Note that 150 mm and 125 mm pads have different carriers and are not interchangeable.
Dust extraction
Self-generated extraction: Slide the dust box (7) onto the extraction outlet (12) until it engages. To empty, pull the box off with a slight twisting motion. Unscrew the filter element (6) and empty the box. Clean the filter element by tapping it against a solid surface or using a soft brush.

External extraction: Connect a dust extraction hose (13) to the extraction outlet (12). Ensure the lateral openings on the outlet remain free to prevent the tool from adhering to the workpiece.
Operation
Switching on/off: Press the on/off switch (4) to start. To lock the switch, press and hold it while pushing the lock-on button (5). To switch off, release the on/off switch (4).
Preselecting the orbital stroke rate: Use the thumbwheel (3) to select the required stroke rate (1-2 low, 3-4 medium, 5-6 high). The optimal rate depends on the material and should be determined by practical testing.
Working advice
Sanding surfaces: Switch the tool on, place the entire sanding surface on the workpiece, and move it with moderate pressure. The material removal rate is primarily determined by the choice of sanding sheet, the preselected stroke rate, and contact pressure. Do not use a sanding sheet used for metal on other materials.
Polishing: For polishing weathered lacquers or scratches, the tool can be fitted with appropriate polishing tools (lambswool bonnet, polishing felt, or sponge). Use a low stroke rate (level 1-2) to avoid excessive surface heating.
Maintenance and cleaning
Always disconnect the power plug before working on the tool. Keep the tool and ventilation slots clean for safe operation. If the power cord needs replacement, it must be done by Bosch or an authorized service center to avoid safety hazards.
