Product Overview

The Canon RF 16mm F2.8 STM is a compact, ultra-wide-angle lens designed specifically for the Canon EOS R series of mirrorless cameras. It features a Stepping Motor (STM) for smooth and quiet autofocus performance, making it suitable for both photography and video applications.

Safety Precautions

To ensure safe operation and prevent injury or damage, please observe the following:

• Do not look directly at the sun or other intense light sources through the lens, as this can cause permanent vision damage.
• Avoid leaving the lens in direct sunlight without the lens cap attached, as the glass elements can concentrate light and cause a fire or internal malfunction.
• Temperature extremes: Do not store or use the product in environments with excessively high or low temperatures to prevent damage or potential burns.

Setup and Operation

Before using the lens, ensure your camera's firmware is updated to the latest version to avoid potential malfunctions or limitations, such as the loss of magnified view functionality on certain models like the EOS R and EOS RP.

Attaching and Detaching

Always turn the camera power off before mounting or removing the lens. Align the lens mount index on the lens with the corresponding mark on the camera body, then rotate the lens clockwise until it clicks into place. To detach, press the camera's lens release button and rotate the lens counterclockwise.

Focusing and Control Ring

The lens features a versatile focusing/control ring. Use the selector switch to toggle between FOCUS mode (for manual or autofocus operation) and CONTROL mode (to adjust camera settings like aperture or shutter speed). Note that the lens is electronic, and manual focus is possible even in AF mode on compatible cameras.

Maintenance and Handling

Keep the lens contacts clean and free of fingerprints or debris to ensure proper communication with the camera. If the lens is moved between environments with significant temperature differences, place it in an airtight plastic bag to allow it to acclimate gradually and prevent condensation.

Accessories

The optional EW-65C lens hood helps reduce flare and ghosting while protecting the front element. It can be reverse-mounted for compact storage. The lens also supports 43mm filters; only one filter should be attached at a time.
