This manual provides essential instructions for the safe operation and maintenance of your Craftsman 316.791870 2-Cycle Gas Trimmer. Always read the safety rules before use. The unit requires a 40:1 fuel-to-oil mixture. The Incredi-Pull starting system simplifies the starting process.

Assembly
Installing the D-Handle: Place the D-handle over the shaft housing onto the bottom clamp, at least 6 inches (15.24 cm) from the end of the shaft grip. Secure with the provided screws using a flat-head or T-25 Torx screwdriver. Adjust to your preferred position before fully tightening.

Installing Trimmer Attachment: Loosen the coupler knob, push the attachment into the coupler until the release button snaps into the primary hole, and tighten the knob clockwise.
Operation
Starting the Engine: Ensure the On/Off switch is in the ON (I) position. Prime the bulb 10 times slowly until fuel is visible. Push the red EZ-Fire lever until it clicks. Pull the starter rope with a controlled motion up to 10 times. Once started, squeeze the throttle for 15-30 seconds to warm up; the EZ-Fire lever will disengage automatically.

Trimming Tips: Keep the cutting attachment parallel to the ground. Cut from left to right for best efficiency. Use the Convertible coupler to rotate the head for edging.
Maintenance
Maintenance Schedule: Perform regular maintenance to ensure peak performance. Clean and re-oil the air filter every 10 hours. Check and clean the spark arrestor and spark plug every 25 hours. Inspect the exhaust port every 50 hours.
Air Filter: Remove the cover, take out the filter, wash in detergent and water, dry completely, and apply a light coat of SAE 30 oil before reinstalling.
Spark Plug: Use a Champion RDJ7Y or equivalent. Set the gap to 0.025 in. (0.635 mm).
Troubleshooting
If the engine fails to start, check the fuel tank, ensure the primer bulb was pressed 10 times, and verify the spark plug condition. If the engine will not idle, clean the air filter or adjust the idle speed screw.
