Quick guide from the manual
The D Addario PW-CT-23 Pedal Tuner+ is a chromatic pedal tuner designed for musicians. It features a high-visibility LED display, a built-in countdown timer for rehearsals or set lists, and selectable buffered or true bypass modes to maintain signal integrity.
Device Overview
The tuner features an input jack, output jack, and a 9V DC adapter input. The main interface includes a foot switch for activation, a calibration button (A415-A475), and a countdown timer button located on the side.
Tuning Operation
The display provides visual feedback for tuning:
- Sharp: Upper LEDs illuminate.
- Flat: Lower LEDs illuminate.
- In Tune: Green LEDs above and below the note illuminate, along with left and right arrows.
Use the calibration button on the side to scroll through reference frequencies between A415 and A475.
Countdown Timer
The tuner includes a timer to help monitor performance or practice time:
- Press the COUNTDOWN button to select the duration (each press adds 5 minutes; hold to scroll faster).
- Wait a few seconds until the setting flashes to arm the timer.
- Press the button again to start the countdown.
- The green arrows will flash while the timer is active.
- A five-minute warning is indicated by a row of red LEDs flashing.
- When time expires, all red LEDs flash and the display reads 00. Press the button to end.
- Press and hold the button at any time to cancel.
Bypass Modes
The tuner offers two modes for signal routing:
- Buffered Bypass (Default): Converts high-impedance signals to low-impedance to prevent signal degradation over long cables or multiple pedals. The internal trim pot allows for gain adjustment.
- True Bypass: Routes the signal directly from input to output without passing through circuitry when the pedal is off. To enable, remove the back plate and set the internal buffer switch to the off position.
Power and Maintenance
The device can be powered by a 9V battery (included) or an external 9V DC adapter (tip negative). For support, contact [email protected] or visit daddario.com.

Practical help
Common problems
Use the default Buffered Bypass mode to convert the signal to low impedance.
Remove the back plate of the tuner and move the internal buffer switch to the off position.
Ensure the setting is flashing (armed) before pressing the button to start the countdown.
Before use
- Ensure a 9V battery is installed or a 9V DC adapter is connected.
- Check that the input and output cables are securely connected.
- Verify the desired reference frequency (A415-A475) using the calibration button.
- Decide between Buffered or True Bypass based on your pedalboard setup.
Model compatibility
- Buffered bypass is recommended when using multiple pedals or long cable lengths.
- True bypass is recommended if you prefer the signal to remain completely untouched by the tuner circuitry when inactive.
