This document provides essential operating and maintenance instructions for the Greenworks 20" 12A Electric Lawn Mower (Model MO12B00). Always read the full safety rules before operating the equipment. Key safety requirements include keeping bystanders at least 100 feet (30 m) away, wearing proper eye protection, and never operating on slopes greater than 15 degrees.
Assembly
The mower requires minimal assembly:

- Handle: Pull the upper handle up and back until it snaps into position. Secure the upper handle with cam locks and the lower handle with handle knobs.
- Grass Catcher: Lift the rear discharge cover and hook the grass catcher bag onto the rod. Note: The mulching plug must be removed to use the grass catcher.
- Mulching Plug: Insert the plug at an angle into the rear discharge opening.
- Side Discharge Chute: Lift the side discharge cover, align the deflector grooves with the pins on the cover, and lower until secured.
Operation
To start the mower, plug it into an approved outdoor extension cord, press and hold the start button, and pull the bail switch upward toward the handle. To stop, simply release the bail switch. Always use the cord retainer to prevent the extension cord from disconnecting.

Cutting Height Adjustment
Adjust the blade height by moving the height adjustment lever toward the front (to lower) or back (to raise) of the mower. Recommended height is 1.5" to 2" in cool months and 2" to 3.5" in hot months.
Maintenance
- Blade Replacement: Always disconnect the power source. Use heavy gloves and a block of wood to prevent the blade from turning while loosening the blade nut counter-clockwise. Ensure parts are reassembled in the exact order removed.
- Cleaning: Never use water or a pressure washer. Scrape debris from the underside of the deck using an appropriate tool.
- Storage: Store indoors in a dry, clean area. Fold the handle by unlocking the cam locks and loosening the handle knobs.
Troubleshooting
- Mower does not start: Check if the extension cord is connected to both the power source and the mower plug.
- Uneven cut: Check the mowing area for roughness or adjust the cutting height.
- Excessive vibration: Stop the motor immediately, disconnect the power, and inspect for a bent motor shaft or unbalanced blade.

Common problems
Ensure the extension cord is securely connected to both the power source and the mower plug. If it still fails, the control switch may be defective.
Stop the motor immediately, disconnect the power, and inspect for a bent motor shaft or an unbalanced blade.
The grass may be too long or the cutting height is set too low. Raise the cutting height.
Before use
- Inspect the area for stones, sticks, wires, and other debris.
- Verify that all safety devices (trail shield, discharge cover, grass catcher) are in place.
- Check that the blade and motor mounting bolts are tight.
- Ensure the extension cord is in good condition and rated for outdoor use.
- Wear proper eye protection (ANSI Z87.1 compliant).
