Quick guide from the manual

This document provides essential instructions for the GYS WCU 0.5KW and 1KW water cooling units. These units are designed to cool water-cooled torches connected to compatible TIG welding machines. Installation must be performed by qualified personnel while the welding machine is disconnected from the power supply.

Hardware description

The cooling units feature automatic detection by the connected TIG machine. They include:

  • Water level protection to ensure proper system functioning and torch cooling.
  • Water flow protection to prevent torch damage due to circuit blockages or hose issues.

The cooling unit can be deactivated via the OPTION menu on the connected TIG welding machine.

Installation and connection

  1. Unclip the plastic cover from the welding machine.
  2. Unscrew the front and rear screws (or side screws, depending on the model) to open the machine.
  3. Connect the two cooling unit cables and tuck any excess cable length inside the cooling unit.
  4. Refix the screws to secure the cooling unit to the machine frame.

Cooling liquid

The tank must be filled to the MAX level indicated on the front gauge. Never let the level drop below the MIN line, as this will trigger a warning message. Use only the manufacturer-recommended cooling liquid (ref. 052246). Using other coolants, such as standard automotive fluids, can cause electrolysis, leading to solid deposits that may block the cooling circuit and void the warranty.

Safety and maintenance

Always ensure the cooling unit is turned off before disconnecting the inlet and outlet hoses. The cooling liquid is harmful and can cause skin or eye irritation; hot liquid may cause burns. Regularly check the power cable and hoses for damage. The cooling liquid should be changed every 12 months to prevent sediment buildup.

Troubleshooting

The device integrates a fault management system that reports errors directly to the connected TIG welding machine. Refer to the troubleshooting chapter of your TIG welding machine's manual for specific error codes and solutions.

Check that the cooling liquid level is not below the MIN line on the front gauge.

Cooling circuit blockage

Ensure only the manufacturer-recommended cooling liquid (ref. 052246) is used. Other fluids can cause electrolysis and sediment buildup.

Before use

  • Ensure the welding machine is disconnected from the power supply before installation.
  • Verify the cooling liquid level is at the MAX mark.
  • Ensure the cooling unit is placed on a surface with a maximum incline of 10°.
  • Check that ventilation holes are free from obstructions.
  • Confirm the cooling unit is compatible with your specific TIG machine model.

Specs in practice
