Quick guide from the manual

This document provides essential safety and operational instructions for the Sealey 1500SLR 1.5 Tonne Low Profile Trolley Jack. Always ensure the jack is used on level, solid ground and that the vehicle is properly secured with chocks and the handbrake engaged. Never use the jack to support a load; always use axle stands.

Safety

  • Use only on level, solid ground (concrete preferred).
  • Chock vehicle wheels and engage the handbrake.
  • Place jack only under manufacturer-recommended lifting points.
  • DANGER: Use jack for lifting only, never for supporting a load. Use axle stands.
  • Do not exceed the 1.5-tonne rated capacity.
  • Do not use brake fluid; use only hydraulic jack oil.

Operation

Before first use, release the handle socket tension carefully as it is under pressure. Assemble the handle by inserting the upper part into the lower part, then secure it into the socket.

Hydraulic System Purging

  1. Open the release valve (one full turn counter-clockwise).
  2. Pump the handle 20 times.
  3. Close the release valve (clockwise).

Raising and Lowering

To raise, ensure the release valve is closed (clockwise), then pump the handle. To lower, turn the release valve slowly counter-clockwise. The jack features a slow-release mechanism for controlled descent.

Maintenance

  • Check for cracked welds, damaged parts, or hydraulic leaks before every use.
  • Keep the jack clean and lubricate moving parts regularly.
  • Every three months, lubricate caster wheel ball bearings with acid-free grease.
  • Check oil level: fully lower the jack, remove the filler plug, and ensure oil is approximately 5mm below the opening.
  • Replace oil annually for extensive use.

Troubleshooting

If the jack fails to lift or feels spongy, it often indicates air in the system or low oil. Purge the hydraulic system as described above. If the jack will not hold a load, check for dirt on valve seats or a partially open release valve. For persistent issues, contact a local service agent at 01284 757500.

Practical help

Common problems

Jack will not lift the load

Check for overload, low oil level, or air in the system. Ensure the release valve is fully closed.

Jack feels spongy

Air is likely in the system. Open the release valve, pump the handle several times, then close and retry.

Jack will not hold load

Check for dirt on valve seats or a partially open release valve. Clean or replace seals if necessary.

Before use

  • Visually inspect for cracked welds, damaged parts, or hydraulic leaks.
  • Ensure the jack is on hard, level ground.
  • Chock the vehicle wheels.
  • Ensure the vehicle handbrake is engaged.
  • Release the handle socket tension carefully before use.

Specs in practice

Minimum Saddle Height
Lowest point the jack can reach (70mm), suitable for low-profile vehicles.
Maximum Saddle Height
Highest point the jack can lift (610mm).

Model compatibility

  • Use only Sealey hydraulic jack oil (Part No: HJO500MLS or HJO5LS).
  • Do not use brake fluid; it will damage the system and void the warranty.
