This Stirling 145L Chest Freezer is a dual-function appliance that can operate as a freezer or a refrigerator. Important: Before plugging in the unit for the first time, let it stand upright for at least 4 hours to allow refrigerant gases to settle. When first starting, allow the unit to cool on the coldest setting for at least 2 hours before adding food.

Safety instructions

  • Flammable refrigerant: This appliance contains R600a refrigerant and cyclopentane insulation blowing gas. Keep away from heat, sparks, and open flames.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate air circulation around the appliance to prevent overheating.
  • Child safety: When discarding the freezer, remove the lid to prevent child entrapment.
  • Electrical: Do not use extension cords or adaptors. Ensure the power outlet is properly earthed.

Installation

  • Clearance: Allow at least 10cm of clear space at the back and sides, and 1m above the unit.
  • Surface: Place on a sturdy, level floor. Use the levelling feet at the front corners if necessary.
  • Environment: Install in a well-ventilated indoor area, away from direct sunlight and heat sources.

The control panel is located at the bottom right-hand corner of the cabinet.

  • Fridge mode: Adjustable between 2°C and 6°C. Suitable for short-term storage of fresh food.
  • Freezer mode: Adjustable between -14°C and -25°C. Suitable for freezing fresh food and long-term storage.
  • Super Freezing: Temporarily sets the unit to maximum cooling for fast freezing. Automatically reverts after 52 hours.
  • Lock/Unlock: The system locks automatically after 30 seconds. To unlock, press and hold the FRIDGE and FREEZER buttons simultaneously for three seconds.

Defrosting and cleaning

Frost will accumulate on the interior walls over time. When it reaches 3-4mm thickness, the unit should be defrosted.

  1. Unplug the freezer and remove all food and the storage basket.
  2. Open the two drainage plugs: one on the bottom of the front panel and one at the bottom of the interior cabinet.
  3. Place a tray and towels under the outer drain plug. Pull the plug slightly and rotate it 180 degrees to allow water to drain.
  4. Once defrosted, clean the interior with a mild detergent and water solution (baking soda is recommended).
  5. Dry thoroughly before restarting.

Troubleshooting

If the freezer does not work, check the power connection, fuse, or circuit breaker. If the compressor cycles frequently, ensure the lid is sealing properly and the unit has adequate ventilation. If the temperature is too warm, check the thermostat setting and ensure the lid is not opened too frequently.

Check if it is plugged in, the plug is loose, or if a circuit breaker/fuse has tripped.

Compressor cycles frequently

Check for proper ventilation clearances, ensure the lid seals properly, and avoid adding large amounts of warm food at once.

Temperature is too warm

Adjust the temperature control to a colder setting, ensure the lid is closed properly, and avoid opening the lid too frequently.

Vibrations

Ensure the appliance is on a level surface. If the floor is uneven, use shims to level the unit.

Before use

  • Remove all packaging materials, including foam pads and tapes.
  • Check for any damage; do not install if damaged.
  • Clean the interior with a damp cloth and mild detergent.
  • Place on a sturdy, level surface with 10cm clearance at the back/sides and 1m above.
  • Let the unit stand upright for at least 4 hours before plugging in.
  • Allow the unit to cool for at least 2 hours before adding food.
