The TC Helicon VoiceTone D1 is a vocal doubling and detune pedal designed to add depth and texture to your vocal performance. This guide provides the essential steps to set up and operate your device effectively.

Device Overview

The VoiceTone D1 features several controls and connections to manage your vocal effects:

Doubling Style Selector: Choose between eight different styles of vocal doubling.
Mic Input Level Control: Adjusts the gain for your microphone input.
Effect Active LED: Indicates when the effect is engaged.
Effect On/Off Footswitch: Toggles the doubling effect on or off.
USB: Used for firmware updates via a mini-USB cable.
Power: Connection for the included 12 V / >= 400 mA power supply.
Input Level LED: Visual indicator for signal strength (Green = signal, Red = clip).
Mic Control: Allows control using the optional MP-75 microphone (button in = on).
Dry/Wet Mix Control: Adjusts the balance between the original dry signal and the processed wet signal.
Out: Output connection for a mixer or powered speaker.
Mic: Input connection for your microphone.

Setup and Connections

To begin using your VoiceTone D1, follow these steps:

Connect your microphone to the Mic input (11).
Connect the Out (10) to your mixer or powered speaker.
Connect the included 12 V / >= 400 mA power supply to the Power input (6).
Adjust the Mic Input Level Control (2) so that the Input Level LED (7) shows green while singing. If it turns red, reduce the input level to avoid clipping.

Operation

Once connected, use the Doubling Style Selector (1) to choose your preferred doubling style. Use the Effect On/Off Footswitch (4) to engage or bypass the effect. The Dry/Wet Mix Control (9) allows you to blend the amount of effect applied to your voice. If using an optional MP-75 microphone, you can use the Mic Control (8) to toggle the effect remotely.

Safety Information

This device is intended for use in tropical and moderate climates up to 45°C. Ensure the power cord is protected from being walked on or pinched. Do not expose the apparatus to rain or moisture, and do not place objects filled with liquids, such as vases, on the apparatus. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.

Common problems

No sound output

Check that the microphone is connected to the Mic input and the output is connected to a mixer or powered speaker. Ensure the power supply is connected.

Distorted or clipping sound

Check the Input Level LED. If it is red, the input signal is too hot. Reduce the Mic Input Level Control until the LED stays green.

Effect not audible

Ensure the Effect Active LED is lit. Check the Dry/Wet Mix Control to ensure the wet signal is not turned all the way down.

Before use

Ensure you have the included 12 V / >= 400 mA power supply.
Verify your microphone is connected to the Mic input.
Check that your output device (mixer or powered speaker) is connected.
Set the input level so the LED is green, not red.
