Important Information

The Havik 1E44F-B is a 51.7cc earth auger. Proper operation requires a 25:1 gas-to-oil fuel mixture. Always operate the unit in well-ventilated areas to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Before starting, ensure all screws and nuts are tight, the air filter is clean, and the spark plug wire is securely connected.

Operation

Fuel Mixing: Use a 25:1 ratio of unleaded regular gasoline to 2-cycle oil. Mix in a container outside in a well-ventilated area.

Cold Engine Start:

  1. Open the gas cap vent screw all the way (counterclockwise).
  2. Move the choke lever to the CHOKE or ON position.
  3. Prime the unit (if equipped with a primer bulb, fill the hose).
  4. Push the rocker switch to the ON position.
  5. Grasp the throttle control wide open with your right hand.
  6. Grasp the starter handle with your left hand and pull slowly until it engages, then pull with a rapid full arm stroke.
  7. After the engine starts, move the choke lever to the HALF CHOKE position until the unit runs smoothly.
  8. Move the choke lever to the RUN or OFF position and move the throttle to the desired speed.

Hot Engine Start:

  1. Open the gas cap vent screw all the way (counterclockwise).
  2. Follow the cold start procedure starting from step 5.

Stopping the Engine: Push the rocker switch to the OFF position.

Maintenance and Storage

Air Filter: Service every 3 months or 20 hours of operation. Wash in warm water with mild soap, rinse, dry, and apply a light coat of oil.

Spark Plug: Check every 50 operating hours. Clean or replace if electrodes are pitted or burned.

Gear Case: The gear case is pre-filled with grease at the factory. It is recommended to check the grease level once a year. Do not overfill.

Long Term Storage: Add fuel stabilizer to the fuel, run the engine for 10-15 minutes, remove remaining fuel, apply a thin layer of grease to the output shaft, and store in a vertical position.

Troubleshooting

If the engine is hard to start, check for stale fuel, a loose spark plug wire, a dirty carburetor, or improper throttle control. If the auger cuts slowly, the blade may be dull and require sharpening or replacement.

Technical Specifications

The Havik 1E44F-B features a 51.7cc forced air-cooled 2-stroke engine with a 1.4kw max output. The fuel tank capacity is 0.8L, and the gear ratio is 34:1.
