Quick answers from the manual
Quick answer
- The ACiQ Next Gen Heat Pump Condenser is a dual fuel system requiring a 24V heat pump thermostat (2H, 2C) with outdoor temperature sensing. Installation requires a licensed HVAC professional, a TXV-equipped indoor coil, and specific nitrogen purging during brazing. p. 1, 2
Key actions
- Purge with nitrogen during brazing to prevent compressor damage. p. 2
- Configure thermostat for Dual Fuel and set Reversing Valve to Energized in Heating. p. 4
First start
- Startup the unit in heating mode to check for leaks and retorque flare adaptors while the unit is hot. p. 2

This guide provides essential installation and setup instructions for the ACiQ Next Gen Heat Pump Condenser in a dual fuel application. This system is designed to work with a 3rd party gas furnace and coil to reduce heating costs. Installation must be performed by a licensed and certified HVAC professional (Section 608-certified).

Installation Requirements
- Indoor Coil: Must have a heat pump compatible Thermostatic Expansion Valve (TXV).
- Sizing: The indoor coil must match the nominal BTU capacity of the outdoor unit. Oversizing by up to 1 ton (12,000 BTU/H) is permitted.
- Thermostat: A 24-volt heat pump thermostat with a minimum of 2 stages of heating and 2 stages of cooling (2H, 2C) is required. It must include outdoor temperature sensing (wired, wireless, or internet-based). Standard heat/cool-only thermostats are not compatible.
Refrigerant Connections
- Line Set: Requires 3/8" Liquid Line and 3/4" Suction Line.
- Brazing: The system includes copper adaptors with female sweat connections. You must purge with nitrogen during brazing. Failure to do so will cause abrasive, oxidative buildup, shorten compressor life, and void the warranty.
- Leak Check: Startup the unit in heating mode to ensure no leaks are present. Retorque flare adaptors while the unit is hot using a digital torque wrench.
System Setup and Wiring
The control board features dip switches and terminal blocks for system configuration.

- Dip Switches: Configure as shown in the reference diagram (1: OFF, 2: ON, 3: ON, 4: OFF).
- Terminal Connections:
- L1/L2: Line Voltage Power (must connect ground wire).
- R: 24 Volt Hot (Power).
- C: 24 Volt Common.
- Y1: Heat/Cool Stage 1.
- Y2: Heat/Cool Stage 2 (High Demand).
- B: Reversing Valve (Energized in Heating).
- W, D, L: Ignore/Do not use.
Thermostat Configuration
Configure the thermostat in the "Installer Setup" or "Advanced Options" menu:
- System Type: Set to Dual Fuel.
- Reversing Valve (O/B): Set to Energized in Heating Mode.
- Backup Heat Type: Set to Gas/Oil Furnace.
- Lockout/Switchover Temperature: Recommended setting is 0°F. (Maximum comfort: 35°F; Maximum efficiency: -10°F).
Important: The heat pump and furnace should never run at the same time. Most heat pump thermostats are configured to prevent this.

Practical help
Common problems
Ensure you purge with nitrogen during brazing. Skipping this step causes oxidative buildup.
Verify the thermostat is a 24V heat pump model (2H, 2C) with outdoor temperature sensing. Standard heat/cool thermostats will not work.
Startup the unit in heating mode and retorque the flare adaptors while the unit is hot.
Before use
- Verify technician is Section 608-certified.
- Ensure indoor coil has a heat pump compatible TXV.
- Confirm line set size is 3/8" (Liquid) and 3/4" (Suction).
- Use 18/8 thermostat wire for low voltage connections.
- Set dip switches according to the reference guide.
- Configure thermostat for Dual Fuel and Gas/Oil furnace backup.
