The Avantco 178CBE Series is a commercial refrigerated chef base designed for professional kitchen environments. Before operating, ensure the unit has been standing upright for at least 24 hours if it was transported on its side. Always use a dedicated, grounded electrical outlet and maintain at least 4 inches of clearance on the front and sides for proper ventilation. Do not use extension cords.

Installation
Proper installation is critical for the longevity and efficiency of your refrigeration unit.

- Surface: Install on a strong, level surface to prevent noise and malfunction.
- Environment: Use indoors in a well-ventilated area. Avoid high humidity, dusty areas, and locations near heat-generating equipment. The unit should not be used in areas exceeding 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Electrical: Ensure the unit is plugged into a dedicated, grounded outlet with appropriate overcurrent protection. Do not use extension cords.
- Clearance: Maintain a minimum of 4 inches of clearance on the front and sides. If equipment is placed on top, use manufacturer-supplied legs and maintain 4 inches of clearance between the chef base and the cooking equipment.
Temperature Controls
The unit is factory-set to optimal temperatures. Refrigerators cycle between 33°F and 40°F; freezers cycle between -5°F and 2°F.

Adjusting Temperature
- Hold the SET button for 1 second until the display flashes the current minimum temperature.
- Use the arrow buttons to adjust the desired minimum temperature.
- Press SET again to save the settings.
Note: The cabinet temperature may fluctuate up to +7 degrees above the set minimum as the compressor cycles.
Manual Defrost
To run a manual defrost cycle, press the defrost button (snowflake symbol and down arrow) for approximately 3 seconds. Repeat the process to stop the cycle.
Maintenance
Warning: Always disconnect the power cord before cleaning any parts of the unit.
- Condenser Coil: Clean at least once per month using a commercial condenser coil cleaner. Brush fins from top to bottom. Straighten bent fins with a fin comb.
- Interior: Clean with warm water and mild soap. Avoid steel wool, caustic soap, abrasive cleaners, or bleach.
- Gaskets: Wash drawer gaskets weekly. Remove from the frame, soak in warm water and soap for 30 minutes, dry, and replace. Check for proper seal after reinstallation.
- Fan Blades/Motor: Clean with a soft cloth if necessary. Cover the motor to prevent moisture damage if washing blades.
Troubleshooting
If the compressor is not running, check if the fuse is blown, the circuit breaker is tripped, or the power cord is unplugged. Ensure the thermostat is not set too high and the unit is not in a defrost cycle. If the unit runs for long periods, check for warm product, open drawers, dirty condenser coils, or iced evaporator coils.

Ensure drawers are closed, check for warm product, clean dirty condenser coil, or defrost iced evaporator coil.
Lower thermostat setting, clear airflow obstructions (ensure 4" clearance), allow time for warm product to cool, or clean condenser coil.
