Quick Guide from the Manual
Before operating your Avantco Chef Base, ensure the unit has stood upright for at least 24 hours if it was transported on its side. Always maintain a minimum clearance of 4 inches on the front and sides for proper ventilation. Use a dedicated, grounded electrical outlet and do not use extension cords.
Installation
Proper installation is critical for the longevity and efficiency of your refrigeration unit.

- Location: Install on a strong, leveled surface in an indoor, well-ventilated area. Avoid high humidity, dusty environments, and areas near heat-generating equipment.
- Electrical: Ensure the unit is plugged into a dedicated, grounded outlet with appropriate overcurrent protection. Do not use extension cords.
- Clearance: Maintain at least 4 inches of clearance around the unit. If placing equipment on top, use manufacturer-supplied legs to ensure a 4-inch gap between the chef base and the cooking equipment.
Temperature Controls
The unit is factory-set to optimal temperatures. Refrigerators cycle between 33°F and 40°F; freezers cycle between -5°F and 2°F.
Adjusting the Temperature
- Hold the SET button for 1 second until the display flashes the current minimum temperature.
- Use the arrow buttons to adjust to the desired minimum temperature.
- Press SET again to save your settings.
Note: The cabinet temperature will fluctuate up to +7°F over your set minimum as the compressor cycles.
Manual Defrost
The unit performs automatic defrost cycles. To run a manual defrost, press the defrost button (snowflake symbol and down arrow) for approximately 3 seconds. Repeat the process to stop the cycle.
Maintenance
- Condenser Coil: Clean at least once per month. Use a commercial condenser coil cleaner and brush fins from top to bottom. Straighten bent fins with a fin comb.
- Interior: Clean with warm water and mild soap. Avoid steel wool, caustic soap, or bleach.
- Gaskets: Wash drawer gaskets weekly. Remove from the door frame, soak in warm soapy water, dry, and replace. Check for a proper seal after reinstallation.
- Fan Blades/Motor: Clean with a soft cloth if necessary. Cover the motor to prevent moisture damage if washing blades.
