This manual covers the setup, operation, and maintenance of Avantco Reach-In Refrigerators and Freezers. Proper installation and maintenance are critical for warranty coverage and optimal performance. The unit is intended for indoor use in a temperature-controlled environment (below 75°F and 60% relative humidity).

Installation
Before installing, ensure the unit is on a strong, level surface. If the unit was transported on its side, allow it to stand upright for at least 24 hours before plugging it in. Maintain at least 6 inches of clearance at the back for proper ventilation. Do not install in high humidity or dusty areas, or near heat-generating equipment.

Field Convertible Doors
Some models (A-19R, A-19F, A-23R, A-23F) ship with a right-hinged design. To convert to a left-hinged design, you must purchase the bottom hinge kit (Avantco #178AKITFR) and follow the step-by-step instructions provided in the manual, which involve removing the vent, top panel, and door hinges.
Electrical Requirements
- The unit must be plugged into a dedicated, grounded, and properly-sized electrical outlet.
- Do not use extension cords.
- Ensure the unit is not resting on the power cord.
- If unplugging, wait at least 10 minutes before plugging it back in to prevent compressor damage.
Temperature Controls
The unit is factory-set to optimum temperatures. To adjust:
- Hold the SET button for 1 second until the display flashes.
- Use the arrow buttons to set the desired minimum temperature.
- Press SET again to save.
Note: Refrigerators cycle between 33°F and 40°F. Freezers cycle between -5°F and 2°F.
Operation and Defrosting
The unit features an automatic defrost cycle. To run a manual defrost:
- Freezers: Press the defrost button (DEF and down arrow) for approximately 5 seconds.
- Refrigerators: Press the defrost button (Snowflake and down arrow) for approximately 3 seconds.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Disconnect power before cleaning. Clean the interior with warm water and mild soap; do not use abrasive cleaners or steel wool. Clean the condenser coil at least once per month using a soft brush or vacuum to remove dust and lint, as a dirty coil can cause compressor damage and high energy consumption.
