Quick Start Guide
This guide covers the setup and operation of the Behringer XENYX Q-USB series mixers. Before using the device, ensure you have read the safety instructions. The primary setup involves connecting your signal sources (microphones, instruments, or line-level devices) to the input channels and connecting your output devices (speakers, monitors, or recording equipment) to the main outputs.
Controls Overview
The mixer features various controls for shaping your sound:
- MIC: Balanced microphone input with switchable +48V/+15V phantom power.
- LINE IN: Balanced line input for instruments or line-level devices.
- GAIN: Adjusts the input amplification. Always turn fully counterclockwise when connecting/disconnecting sources.
- EQUALIZER: 3-band EQ (2-band on Q502USB) for boosting or cutting frequencies.
- LOW CUT: Eliminates unwanted low-frequency noise (available on Q1002USB and Q1202USB).
- FX: Sends signals to an external effects processor.
- PAN/BAL: Determines the signal position in the stereo image.
- LEVEL: Adjusts the channel signal level in the main mix.
Level Setting
To correctly set the gains of the channels:
- Set the LEVEL controls of the input channels to their center positions (0 dB).
- Use the GAIN controls to increase the input amplification until signal peaks show 0 dB on the level meter.
- For digital recording, ensure the peak meter does not exceed 0 dB to avoid digital distortion.
Specifications
The mixers feature XENYX mic preamps, British EQs, and a built-in USB/Audio interface. Detailed technical specifications, including frequency response, impedance, and power consumption, are provided in the full manual on page 38.
Safety and Maintenance

Common problems
The input signal is too high. Use the GAIN control to reduce the preamp level until the CLIP LED stops lighting.
Ensure phantom power is enabled if using a condenser microphone. Check that the channel LEVEL and MAIN MIX controls are turned up.
You can only use either the microphone or the line input of a channel at any one time.
Before use
- Verify the correct mains voltage for your model.
- Ensure all GAIN controls are turned fully counterclockwise before connecting sources.
- Connect the included power adapter; the mixer cannot be bus-powered via USB.
- Set LEVEL controls to the center position (0 dB) before adjusting gain.
- Check that all cables are high-quality and properly seated.
