Quick guide from the manual
The BERG BUDDY is a pedal go-kart designed for children aged 3-8 years (height 100-130 cm). The maximum user weight is 50 kg (110 lbs). Adult supervision is required at all times. The go-kart must not be used on public roads, hills, or slopes due to the risk of tipping over and increased braking distance. Always wear shoes and avoid loose clothing that could get entangled in moving parts.
Unpacking and Assembly
Before starting, ensure all parts listed in the unpacking section are present. The assembly process involves attaching the frame, wheels, steering mechanism, and seat. Follow the numbered steps in the installation section carefully, ensuring all bolts and nuts are securely tightened.
Safety Warnings
- Adult supervision is required.
- Do not use on public roads, near motor vehicles, steep inclines, steps, or bodies of water.
- Never ride on hills or slopes.
- Always wear shoes.
- Do not turn sharply at high speeds to prevent tipping.
- Do not ride under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication.
- In the U.S., a CPSC Standard 16 CFR 1203 approved helmet is recommended; in Europe, a CE certified helmet is recommended.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance is essential for safety and longevity.
- Daily: Check tires for wear and tear; check tire pressure.
- Monthly: Clean and check all nuts and bolts; check frame for cracks; check chain tension and grease; lubricate moving parts.
- Half-Yearly: Check functioning of bearings, chain, hub, sprockets, and axles; check and tighten crank bolts.
- Yearly: Clean plastic parts and check for damage.
Specific Maintenance Procedures
Chain Tensioning
If the chain is too tight, pedaling becomes difficult and wear increases. If too loose, it may fall off. Always start with the rear/short chain if both need tensioning.
Rear Chain: Remove the protective hood, loosen hub nuts, move the hub forward until the chain has 6mm of downward deflection, then tighten nuts.
Front Chain: Loosen crank axle bolts, move the axle forward until the chain has 10mm of upward deflection, then tighten bolts.
Crank Adjustment
After initial use, the crank mounting bolts may settle. Tighten them to a maximum of 30 Nm. If play occurs, tighten the bolts further to prevent damage to the crank and axle.
Warranty
The frame and non-wear parts have a 3-year warranty from the date of purchase. Wear parts like chains and tires are excluded. Warranty claims require the original purchase receipt and the product serial number found on the frame.
