Quick guide from the manual

This Clarke 12V Battery Charger is designed for indoor use to trickle charge 12V lead-acid batteries. Before use, ensure the battery posts are clean and the electrolyte level is topped up with distilled water. Always follow the specific connection order to ensure safety and proper operation.

Safety Precautions

  • Indoor Use Only: Do not use outdoors or expose to elements.
  • Battery Type: Only for 12V Lead-Acid batteries. Do not use for other battery types or low voltage systems.
  • Connection Order: Always connect clamps to battery terminals before plugging into the mains. Disconnect from mains before breaking battery connections.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the charging environment is well-ventilated, away from children, heat sources, water, oil, grease, and flammable substances.
  • Gas Escape: Unscrew battery filler caps fully and leave them loose during charging to allow gases to escape.

Operation

Preparation: Clean around battery filler plugs before removing them. Ensure the transformer is not plugged into the mains.

  1. Connect the RED (+ve) clamp to the non-earthed battery terminal.
  2. Connect the BLACK (-ve) clamp to the earthed terminal.
  3. Plug the transformer into the mains and switch ON.
  4. The LED on the transformer will glow to indicate charging.
  5. When the charging rate drops below approximately 200mA, charging ceases and the LED will extinguish.

Note: If the LED does not extinguish, the battery may be defective or in poor condition.

Disconnecting: When charging is complete, remove the BLACK clamp from the earthed terminal first, followed by the RED clamp from the unearthed terminal.
