Quick guide from the manual

This manual provides essential instructions for the safe operation and maintenance of the Clarke Tiger 1800B petrol pressure washer. Always read the safety rules before use. The machine is designed for outdoor use only and requires proper oil and fuel levels before operation. Ensure a system separator (backflow preventer) is installed when connecting to a mains water supply.

Safety Rules

  • Do not point the spray at people, animals, or electrical equipment.
  • Always wear protective clothing and safety glasses.
  • Do not operate the machine with covers removed.
  • Use only recommended hoses, fittings, and couplings.
  • Do not use flammable liquids or solvents in the detergent pickup.
  • Always release system pressure before removing hoses or accessories.

Overview

The pressure washer features a petrol engine, fuel tank, recoil starter, and high-pressure pump. Key components include the gun assembly, lance, water inlet, and detergent hose. Refer to the overview diagram for the location of the fuel tank cap, choke, throttle, and engine switch.

Before Use

Engine Oil: The engine is supplied without oil. Use SAE10W-30 oil. Check the level using the dipstick on the oil filler cap; do not overfill (Max 0.6L). Fuel: Use unleaded petrol (86 octane or higher). Do not fill above the fuel strainer shoulder.

Starting Your Pressure Washer

Choke lever position
Choke lever position
  1. Turn on the water supply fully.
  2. Set the choke lever to the START position.
  3. Set the fuel supply valve to the ON position.
  4. Slide the throttle 3/4 of the way to the left.
  5. Set the engine switch to the ON (I) position.
  6. Pull the recoil starting handle until resistance is felt, then pull sharply.
  7. Once started, slide the choke lever to the RUN position.
  8. Release the trigger lock and pull the trigger to start water flow.

Operation

Adjusting Nozzle: Twist the nozzle to vary the spray between narrow (for small areas) and wide (for large areas). Adjusting Pressure: Slide the front of the nozzle forward for low pressure and backward for high pressure. Chemicals: Place the detergent pickup hose into the cleaning solution. Slide the nozzle to low pressure to apply detergent.

Maintenance

  • Nozzle: Clean blockages with the provided tool and back flush with water.
  • Water Inlet Filter: Remove and flush both sides with water.
  • Fuel Strainer: Check periodically and remove accumulated contaminants.
  • Air Filter: Wash in warm water and mild detergent, dry, and immerse in clean engine oil.
  • Spark Plug: Check condition and gap (0.7-0.8 mm).

Troubleshooting

If the engine fails to start, check for fuel, oil, spark plug connection, engine switch position, and choke setting. If pressure is lacking, check for hose leaks, nozzle obstructions, or air in the hose. Water leaking from the drain hose is a normal safety feature to cool the pump.

Specifications

The engine is a 98cc OHV single-cylinder 4-stroke. Maximum pump pressure is 110 Bar, with a working pressure of 70 Bar. Water flow is 6 L/min. The unit weighs 19 kg.

Practical help

Common problems

Engine will not start

Check fuel level, oil level, spark plug lead, engine switch (ON), choke position, and fuel valve (OPEN).

Lack of pressure

Tighten hose fittings, clear nozzle obstruction, clean water filter, purge air from hose, or adjust throttle.

Water leaking from drain hose

This is a normal safety feature to cool the pump; it is expected behavior.

Will not draw chemicals

Clean chemical filter, dilute chemicals to water consistency, or check for chemical build-up in the injector.

Before use

  • Place the pressure washer on level ground.
  • Check engine oil level (SAE10W-30, max 0.6L).
  • Check fuel level (unleaded petrol, max 1.6L).
  • Connect water supply with a system separator (backflow preventer).
  • Ensure all hoses and the lance are securely connected.
  • Release the trigger lock before starting.
