Safety

  • Never pull the press handle past the horizontal position. Doing so can cause gear slippage and tooth damage.
  • Do not increase the leverage ratio by using a longer handle or by placing a pipe over the handle.
  • Never hammer on top of the ram.
  • The machine is intended to be operated by one person.
  • Ensure the equipment is securely anchored to prevent tipping.
  • Keep hands away from the point of operation.
  • Wear eye protection and guard the workpiece to prevent projectiles.

Operation

The press features two primary controls for operation:

  • Handwheel: Use the handwheel to raise or lower the ram to and from the workpiece without exerting force.
  • Handle: Use the handle to lower the ram and exert force onto the workpiece. Always return the handle to the upright position after the stroke is complete.

Maintenance

  • Keep all working parts of the press well-oiled to ensure smooth operation.
  • Apply a light film of oil over the entire surface of the ram to prevent rust.

The manual includes detailed exploded views and parts lists for models 1-1/2, 1-1/2B, and 1-3/4. When ordering parts, provide the part number, name of the part, and the model number of your press. Parts can be purchased directly from Dake or through a distributor.

Common problems

Gear slippage or tooth damage

Ensure the handle is never pulled past the horizontal position. Always return the handle up as far as it allows before bringing it back down to ensure the pawl fully engages.

Rust on the ram

Keep a light film of oil over the entire surface of the ram.

Before use

  • Ensure the machine is securely anchored to a stable surface.
  • Verify that all safety labels are present and legible.
  • Check that the handle is in the correct position.
  • Ensure the workpiece is properly guarded.
  • Wear appropriate eye protection.

Specs in practice

Leverage ratio
All models feature a 48:1 leverage ratio. Do not attempt to increase this ratio.

Model compatibility

  • Model 1-1/2B requires a specific 4-pocket table plate.
