Quick installation guide for Danfoss NRV and NRVH check valves. Includes technical specifications, refrigerant compatibility, and proper soldering procedures to prevent overheating.
Table of contents
Quick guide from the manual
This guide provides essential installation and operational information for Danfoss NRV and NRVH check valves. The valves are designed for a wide range of refrigerants with a temperature range of -50°C to 140°C and a maximum working pressure of 46 bar (667 psi). When installing, ensure the flow direction matches the system requirements and use proper soldering techniques to protect the valve from heat damage.
Technical Specifications
- Media Temperature: -50°C to 140°C (-58°F to 285°F)
- Max. Working Pressure (PS/MWP): 46 bar / 667 psi
- Solder Requirement: Minimum 5% Ag (Silver) content
Refrigerant Compatibility
These valves are compatible with most common non-flammable and flammable refrigerants, including R134a, R22/R407C, R404A/R507, R407A, R407F, R410A, R32, R290, R600, R600a, R1270, R448A, R449A, R450A, R452A, R454B, R513A, R1234ze, and R1234yf. Note that R717 is excluded. For flammable refrigerants, only solder versions with connection sizes from 6s to 22s are permitted.
Installation and Soldering
When soldering the valve into the piping system, it is critical to prevent the valve body from overheating. Always use a wet rag wrapped around the valve body during the soldering process to ensure the temperature does not exceed 140°C (285°F). Ensure the design pressure of the system meets the requirements outlined in Section 9.2 of ANSI/ASHRAE 15.

Common problems
Wrap the valve body with a wet rag during the soldering process to keep the temperature below 140°C (285°F).
Only use solder versions with connection sizes from 6s to 22s when working with flammable refrigerants.
Before use
- Verify that the refrigerant used is compatible with the valve sealing material.
- Ensure the system design pressure meets ANSI/ASHRAE 15 Section 9.2 standards.
- Check that the valve orientation aligns with the system flow direction.
- Confirm the solder used has a minimum of 5% silver (Ag) content.
Specs in practice
- Media Temperature
- Operating range is -50°C to 140°C (-58°F to 285°F).
- Max. Working Pressure (PS/MWP)
- The valve can withstand a maximum pressure of 46 bar (667 psi).
Model compatibility
- Not compatible with R717.
- Compatible with most common non-flammable and flammable refrigerants.
- Non-corrosive gases/liquids compatibility depends on sealing material.
