Quick guide from the manual

This document provides installation and adjustment instructions for the Danfoss CPCE Hot Gas Bypass Regulator and the LG Liquid Gas Mixer accessory. The most critical requirements are adhering to the specified tightening torque, especially when using flammable refrigerants, and following the correct brazing procedures.

Refrigerant Compatibility

The CPCE regulator is compatible with the following refrigerants:

  • R22, R1270, R134a, R290, R404A, R407A, R407C, R407F, R448A, R449A, R450A, R452A, R507A, R513A, R600, R600a

Installation and Brazing

When installing the unit, ensure proper brazing techniques are used. The manual specifies the use of 15% Ag (silver) brazing material. Ensure the system is clean and free of debris before installation.

Tightening Torque

Important: Tightening torque must be strictly respected, particularly when the system is used with flammable refrigerants. The required torque is 4 Nm, which corresponds to finger-tight plus a 1/4 turn.

Tightening torque requirement: 4 Nm (finger tight + 1/4 turn).
Tightening torque requirement: 4 Nm (finger tight + 1/4 turn).

Adjustment Procedure

The regulator can be adjusted to meet system requirements. A 360-degree turn of the adjustment screw corresponds to a pressure change of approximately 1 bar (15 psi). The factory setting is typically 0.4 bar (6 psig).

Adjustment screw operation: 360° turn equals 1 bar (15 psi).
Adjustment screw operation: 360° turn equals 1 bar (15 psi).

Technical Specifications

  • Maximum Temperature (tmax): 140 °C (285 °F)
  • Minimum Temperature (tmin): -50 °C (-60 °F)
  • Maximum Working Pressure (PS/MWP): 28 bar pe (405 psig)
  • Maximum Test Pressure (Pmax test): 31 bar pe (450 psig)

Common problems

Leakage at connections

Ensure tightening torque is exactly 4 Nm (finger tight + 1/4 turn). This is critical for flammable refrigerants.

Incorrect pressure regulation

Adjust the setting screw. A 360-degree rotation changes the pressure by approximately 1 bar (15 psi).

Before use

  • Verify that the refrigerant used is on the approved list (e.g., R290, R600a, R134a).
  • Ensure system operating pressure does not exceed 28 bar (405 psig).
  • Check that operating temperatures are within the -50°C to 140°C range.
  • Prepare 15% Ag brazing material for installation.
  • Have 14 mm, 22 mm, and 32 mm wrenches available for installation.

Specs in practice

PS/MWP (28 bar)
Maximum Working Pressure allowed for the device.
Pmax test (31 bar)
Maximum pressure the device can withstand during system testing.
Adjustment (360°)
One full rotation of the adjustment screw equals a 1 bar (15 psi) change.

Images and diagrams

  • Brazing: Use 15% Ag material for secure connections.
  • Torque: Apply 4 Nm (finger tight + 1/4 turn) to prevent leaks.
  • Adjustment: Rotate the screw to set the desired pressure (0.4 bar default).

Model compatibility

  • Compatible with a wide range of refrigerants including R22, R134a, R290, R600a, and various R400/R500 series.
  • Always check the official Danfoss product website for the most current list of approved refrigerants.
