Quick guide from the manual

The Danfoss BFP 52E is a fuel pump designed exclusively for oil burners. Key operational requirements include ensuring the pump contains oil before startup and not operating the pump dry for more than 5 minutes. The solenoid valve must be replaced after 250,000 operations or 10 years of service.

Technical Data

Oil types: Standard fuel gas oil and fuel gas oil according to DIN V 51603-6 EL A Bio 10.

Viscosity range: 1.8 to 12 mm²/s (cSt).

Speed: 2400 to 3450 min⁻¹.

Pressure range: 7 to 25 bar. Factory settings are 10 bar for Stage 1 and 13 bar for Stage 2.

Coil voltage: Stated on the coils.

Connections

Refer to the connection diagram (Fig. 1) for port identification:

Connection ports identification
Connection ports identification
  • P1: Pressure regulation for stage 1
  • P2: Pressure regulation for stage 2
  • S: Suction line G 1/4
  • G: Return line G 1/4
  • P: Pressure gauge connection G 1/8
  • V: Vacuum meter connection G 1/8
  • F: Cartridge filter

Bleeding the Pump

Bleeding is only necessary for 1-pipe systems and is performed via the P-port. In 2-pipe systems, the pump is bled automatically through the return pipe.

Filter Replacement

To replace the cartridge filter (Fig. 2):

Filter replacement procedure
Filter replacement procedure
  1. Unscrew the filter plug in the cover using a 4 mm key.
  2. Pull out the cartridge filter. If necessary, use a screwdriver between the filter and the plug to carefully twist the filter out.
  3. Discard the old filter.
  4. Press a new filter onto the plug.
  5. Reassemble the cartridge filter and tighten it slightly.

System Conversion

The pump can be converted between 1-pipe and 2-pipe operation (Fig. 3):

  • 1-pipe operation: Without screw.
  • 2-pipe operation: With screw fitted.

Safety and Maintenance

The oil pumps are intended solely for use on oil burners. Ensure the solenoid valve is replaced after 250,000 operations or 10 years to maintain safety and performance. During initial startup with an empty pipe system, do not run the pump without oil for more than 5 minutes.

Common problems

Pump running dry during startup

Do not operate the pump without oil for more than 5 minutes. Ensure the pump contains some oil before starting.

Air in the system

Bleed the pump via the P-port (only required for 1-pipe systems; 2-pipe systems bleed automatically).

Before use

  • Verify the oil type is compatible (Standard fuel gas oil or DIN V 51603-6 EL A Bio 10).
  • Ensure the pump contains oil before the initial startup.
  • Check the solenoid valve age; replace after 10 years or 250,000 cycles.
  • Confirm the system configuration (1-pipe vs 2-pipe) and install the screw if using a 2-pipe system.

Specs in practice

Viscosity range
1.8-12 mm²/s (cSt) is the required oil viscosity for proper operation.
Pressure range
7-25 bar operating range, with factory settings at 10 bar (Stage 1) and 13 bar (Stage 2).

Model compatibility

  • Designed exclusively for use on oil burners.
