This document provides installation instructions for the Danfoss ETS 5M Vaillant electric expansion valve. Important: Do not connect the valve directly to an AC/DC power source; it must be connected to an appropriate controller or driver. The valve must only be used in closed-circuit refrigeration systems where no oxygen is present.
Safety Note for Flammable Refrigerants: This product is validated for use with R454C, R454A, R1234ze, R290, R32, R452B, R454B, R455A, and R1234yf. Ensure compliance with local safety standards (ATEX, EN 378, ISO 5149, ASHRAE 15, IEC 60335-2-x).
Mounting
The valve must be installed within the specified mounting angle. Refer to the mounting diagram, which indicates a 90-degree range for proper orientation.

Brazing
Before brazing, you must open the valve to the overdrive position using a manual coil (Code no. 034G3803). Failure to do so may damage the valve. When brazing:

- Use N2 gas from the opposite side of the soldering point to prevent oxidation.
- Follow the specific brazing options provided in the diagrams.
- Observe strict time limits: Max 30 seconds for Option 1 and Max 15 seconds for Option 2.
- Ensure the use of at least 5% silver (Ag 5%) brazing material.
Assembling
Ensure the valve is not operated while assembling or disassembling. Follow the assembly diagram to correctly seat the components until a click is heard, ensuring a secure fit.

Connection
The valve uses a specific stepper motor wiring configuration. Connect the wires (Orange, Brown, Red, Black, White) according to the connector type 05R-JWPF-HHLE-D. Refer to the stepper motor open and close sequence table to ensure the controller is driving the valve correctly.

Common problems
Always open the valve to the overdrive position using the manual coil (034G3803) before applying heat. Do not exceed 30 seconds (Option 1) or 15 seconds (Option 2) of heating.
Verify that the controller is not connected directly to AC/DC power and that the wiring sequence matches the stepper motor open/close table.
Before use
- Verify refrigerant compatibility (R454C, R454A, R1234ze, R290, R32, R452B, R454B, R455A, R1234yf).
- Ensure the system is a closed circuit with no oxygen present.
- Obtain the manual coil (Code 034G3803) for pre-brazing preparation.
- Check that the power source is a compatible controller/driver.
- Confirm the mounting angle is within the 90-degree specification.
Specs in practice
