Quick Guide

The Danfoss TWA-Z is a thermal actuator designed for use with Pressure Independent Control Valves (PICV). Before installation, identify if you have the NC (Normally Closed) or NO (Normally Open) model. Ensure the power supply matches the actuator rating: 24V (requires Class III transformer/SELV) or 230V (requires max 3A pre-fuse). The device must be mounted in an upright or horizontal position; do not mount the actuator upside down.

Product Overview

The TWA-Z actuator is used to control the flow in heating and cooling systems. It is compatible with PICV valves. The device is rated IP41 and is suitable for media temperatures up to 60°C.

Installation

To install the actuator onto the valve:

Assembly of the TWA-Z actuator onto the valve
Assembly of the TWA-Z actuator onto the valve
Correct and incorrect mounting orientation
Correct and incorrect mounting orientation
  • Ensure the valve is compatible with the TWA-Z actuator.
  • Align the actuator with the valve body.
  • Secure the actuator onto the valve by rotating the connection ring until it is firmly attached.
  • Ensure the final orientation is upright or horizontal.

Wiring

Wiring must be performed according to the specific model type:

  • TWA-Z NC & PICV: Connect the Blue/Brown wires to the power source. The valve is closed when no power is applied.
  • TWA-Z NO & PICV: Connect the Blue/Brown wires to the power source. The valve is open when no power is applied.
  • Electrical Requirements: For 24V models, use a Class III transformer (SELV). For 230V models, use a maximum 3A pre-fuse.

Safety and Disposal

This product contains electrical components and must not be disposed of as household waste. It must be handed over to an applicable take-back scheme for the recycling of electrical and electronic equipment in accordance with local laws and regulations.

Common problems

Actuator mounted upside down

Ensure the actuator is mounted in an upright or horizontal position. Mounting upside down is prohibited.

Incorrect power supply

Verify voltage requirements: 24V requires a Class III transformer (SELV), while 230V requires a maximum 3A pre-fuse.

Before use

  • Identify if your model is NC (Normally Closed) or NO (Normally Open).
  • Confirm the valve is a compatible PICV.
  • Check that the power supply matches the actuator rating (24V or 230V).
  • Ensure the installation location allows for upright or horizontal mounting.

Images and diagrams

  • The assembly diagram illustrates how to attach the actuator to the valve body.
  • The wiring diagrams show the connection points for Blue/Brown wires for both NC and NO configurations.

Model compatibility

  • Designed specifically for use with PICV (Pressure Independent Control Valves).
