Quick guide from the manual

Dewalt PowerFoam is a single-component, moisture-curing expanding polyurethane foam designed for filling, sealing, and insulating. For best results, ensure the application surface is clean and slightly dampened before use. The foam works best at room temperature. After application, allow 24 hours before sanding, staining, or painting. The foam reaches full cure in 12-15 hours.

Product Description

PowerFoam provides insulation against heat and noise and has an R-5 equivalent value. It is compatible with various building materials, including concrete, masonry, wood, metal, aluminum, steel, and PVC. It is CFC-free, water-resistant, and low-odor once cured.

Installation Procedures

  1. Preparation: Remove all dirt, dust, grease, and loose debris from the surface. Dampening the surface helps enhance the bonding ability.
  2. Assembly: Remove the cap, plastic tube, and valve trigger adapter from the can. Connect the plastic tube to the valve trigger adapter, then connect the adapter to the valve stem on the can.
  3. Application: Shake the can well. Follow the arrows on the label for the correct direction of use. Turn the can over so the valve trigger adapter and tube are at the bottom.
  4. Dispensing: Press the valve trigger adapter inward toward the body of the can to dispense.
  5. Cleaning: If the can is not empty and you intend to use it later, immediately clean the valve stem, adapter, and tube with Powers TriggerFoam Cleaner while the foam is wet. Dried foam can only be removed mechanically.

  • Tack Free Time: 5-10 minutes.
  • Cutting Time: 10-15 minutes.
  • Initial Drying Time: 1-5 hours.
  • Full Curing Time: 12-15 hours.
  • Temperature Resistance: -40°F to +195°F (-40°C to +90°C).
  • Shelf Life: 18 months when stored in a vertical position between 41°F and 77°F.

Safety and Usage Notes

PowerFoam is physiologically harmless when fully cured. It does not contain urea formaldehyde or PCBs. It is recommended to allow a full 24 hours to elapse prior to scraping, sanding, staining, or painting the cured foam.

Practical help

Common problems

Foam not curing properly

Ensure the application temperature is at least 41°F (5°C). Curing time depends on temperature and humidity.

Valve or tube clogged

Clean immediately with TriggerFoam Cleaner while the foam is wet. Dried foam must be removed mechanically.

Poor adhesion

Ensure the surface is free of dirt, dust, and grease. Dampening the surface prior to dispensing improves bonding.

Before use

  • Clean the surface of all loose debris, dust, and grease.
  • Dampen the surface slightly to improve bonding.
  • Shake the can well before use.
  • Verify ambient temperature is at least 41°F (5°C).
  • Ensure the can is stored in a vertical position.

Specs in practice

Volume Yield
The amount of foam produced: 12 oz yields 16-18 liters; 29 oz yields 50 liters.
Tack Free Time
The time (5-10 mins) until the surface is no longer sticky to the touch.
Full Curing Time
The time (12-15 hours) required for the foam to reach its final structural state.

Images and diagrams

  • The installation requires attaching the plastic tube to the valve trigger adapter, and then attaching that assembly to the valve stem on the top of the can.

Model compatibility

  • Compatible with concrete, masonry, wood, metal, aluminum, steel, and PVC.
