Quick guide from the manual

The Dogtra ARC is an e-collar training system designed for dogs as small as 15 lbs. Before using the system, ensure the unit is fully charged (2 hours). The receiver must be fitted snugly so that the contact points touch the dog's skin. Always start with the lowest stimulation level and adjust based on your dog's temperament.

Receiver: Place the magnetic red dot on the back of the transmitter against the red dot on the receiver. Hold them together until the LED light on the receiver turns on. Repeat the procedure to turn the receiver off.

Receiver Fitting

The receiver should be fitted so that the surgical stainless steel contact points press firmly against the dog's skin. You should be able to fit two fingers underneath the collar strap. The best location is on either side of the dog's windpipe. Periodically reposition the receiver to prevent skin irritation.

Charging the Battery

The system uses a lithium polymer battery. Recharge the unit if the indicator light is red, the transmitter LCD shows only 1 bar, or the system will not stay on. Use only Dogtra-approved chargers. A full charge takes 2 hours. When not in use, disconnect the charger from the power source.

  • Nick: Emits a single pulse of electrical stimulation.
  • Constant: Emits continuous stimulation for as long as the button is pressed (up to 12 seconds).
  • Pager: Provides vibration for as long as the button is pressed (up to 12 seconds).

Maintenance

After each training session, inspect the unit for missing parts or damage. Rinse the receiver and clean out any dirt or debris. Ensure the rubber charging cap is securely in place when the receiver is in use. Store the unit at room temperature and fully charge it before storing for extended periods.

Troubleshooting

If the unit is malfunctioning, check the following: ensure the receiver and transmitter are turned on, verify the collar strap is tight enough, check if the contact points are too short for the dog's coat, or increase the intensity level. If the test light works but you feel no stimulation, check your own tolerance or the battery level.

Practical help

Common problems

Dog is not reacting to the receiver

Ensure the receiver is turned on, the collar strap is tight enough for contact points to touch the skin, or increase the intensity level.

Test light works, but no stimulation felt

Your tolerance may be higher than the dog's; test on your inner wrist. Also, check if the battery is low.

No range or stimulation is less when the dog is farther away

Check for damaged antenna, terrain interference (hills, trees), or electrical conductors (metal structures, cars) nearby.

Unit is not holding a charge

Check if the charging port is clean and the charging pin is intact. Ensure the charger and splitter are functioning.

Before use

  • Charge the unit for 2 hours before the first use.
  • Ensure the receiver is fitted properly (two fingers under the strap).
  • Check that the contact points are touching the dog's skin.
  • Test the unit using the provided test light.
  • Ensure the rubber charging cap is securely in place.
