This document provides essential operating instructions for the Draper 12V Brushless Combi Drill (Stock No: 03862). Always ensure the direction switch is in the central (off) position before making any adjustments or changing accessories. The tool is designed for boring holes in wood, plastic, metal, and masonry, and for driving screws. Note that battery packs and chargers are sold separately.
Product Overview
The drill features a keyless chuck, torque control ring, mode control ring, gearbox switch, and a variable speed trigger. An LED lamp illuminates the work area automatically when the trigger is pressed. Battery level indicators are located on the tool to monitor charge status.
Preparing the Combi Drill
- Battery Installation: Slide the battery pack into the base until it clicks. To remove, press the release buttons and slide it out.
- Drill Bits: Twist the chuck anticlockwise to open the jaws, insert the bit, and twist clockwise to tighten.
- Direction Switch: Push to the right for forward (clockwise) rotation, to the left for reverse (anticlockwise), and to the center to lock the trigger.
- Gearbox Switch: Use position 1 for high torque/low speed (heavy loads) and position 2 for low torque/high speed (light loads).
- Mode Control: Select between Drill mode (rotation), Drive mode (rotation with torque control), or Hammer mode (rotation with hammer action).
Operating Instructions
Always start drilling or driving at a slow speed and increase pressure on the trigger as needed. Do not apply excessive force, as this may damage the tool or the workpiece. When drilling masonry, use the Hammer mode and frequently clear debris from the hole. For metal, use a center punch to prevent slipping and apply cutting lubricant.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
Keep the tool clean and free from dust. If the drill fails to operate, check the battery charge and ensure the direction switch is not in the neutral position. Common problems
Drill does not operate when trigger is pressed
Check if the battery is charged and installed correctly, or ensure the direction switch is not in the central (off) position.
Chuck jaws do not grip the drill bit
Check for swarf or obstructions in the jaws and clean the mechanism.
Screws are driven too far or not enough
Adjust the torque control ring; increase for more force, decrease to prevent over-driving.
