Quick Guide from the Manual

The EHX Stereo Clone Theory is a chorus and vibrato pedal designed to provide lush, deep, and warm modulation effects. This guide covers the essential operation, power requirements, and maintenance of the unit.

Controls and Operation

The pedal features a mode switch and two primary control knobs to shape your sound:

  • Mode Switch: Selects between three modes:
    • CHR 1: Chorus mode with adjustable Rate. The Depth is preset to a fixed value.
    • CHR 2: Chorus mode with full control over both Rate and Depth.
    • VIBR: Vibrato mode where the dry voice is removed. Both Rate and Depth are fully adjustable.
  • Rate Control: Adjusts the speed of the modulation.
  • Depth Control: Adjusts the intensity of the modulation. Note that this is inactive in CHR 1 mode.
  • Footswitch: Engages the effect or switches to True Bypass. The LED indicates when the effect is active.

Connections and Stereo Operation

The pedal includes three 1/4" jacks:

  • Input Jack: Connect your instrument here. Plugging into this jack activates the power (battery or external).
  • Main Output Jack: The primary audio output. Use this for mono operation.
  • Stereo Output Jack: The second audio output.

Note on Stereo Operation: The Stereo Output is 180 degrees out of phase from the Main Output. This creates a panning effect when using two amplifiers. You can control the panning intensity using the Rate and Depth knobs.

Power Requirements

The unit can be powered by an internal 9-volt battery or an external power supply.

  • External Power: Use a 9-volt battery eliminator capable of delivering 100 mA of current. The connector must be center negative (inner ring negative, outer ring positive).
  • Battery Usage: To conserve battery life, always remove the input cable when the unit is not in use.

Battery Replacement

To replace the internal 9-volt battery:

  1. Remove the 4 screws located on the bottom of the pedal.
  2. Carefully remove the bottom plate.
  3. Replace the battery.
  4. Reattach the bottom plate.

Warning: Do not touch the circuit board while the bottom plate is removed to avoid damaging components.
