This guide covers the operation and installation of First Alert security safes, including models 2087DF, 2087DEF, 2092DF, and 2092DEF. The safe is designed to protect valuables from fire and theft. Important: Do not return the safe to the store if you are missing parts or have difficulty programming; contact Consumer Affairs at 1-800-223-8566.

First time activation
Before using the safe, you must perform the initial setup:

- Install Batteries: Open the safe door, slide the battery compartment cover (located inside at the top of the door) forward, and install 4 AA batteries. The red and green lights will blink twice, and you will hear a beep.
- Remove Locking Pin: Locate the small plastic locking pin on the inside of the safe door. Grip and pull it out completely to discard it.
- Test Locking System: With the door open, push the Locking Push Button on the inside of the door and turn the handle downward to the left to extend the live bolts.
Programming your passcode
The factory pre-set passcode is 159. It is highly recommended to change this immediately:
- With the safe door open, press the small reset button located on the inside top edge of the door. The red and green lights will flash.
- Open the protective cover on the front of the safe.
- Enter your new 3-8 digit passcode followed by the # key.
- Immediately repeat the sequence (new passcode + # key).
- The green light will light up solid to confirm the new passcode is set.
Emergency override key
If you forget your passcode or the batteries fail, use the emergency override key:
- Locate and open the protective keypad cover.
- Remove the 2 screws securing the small lock cover below the digital keypad.
- Insert the emergency override key and turn clockwise.
- Turn the handle upwards to the right to open the safe.
Maintenance and care
- Batteries: Replace batteries at least once a year. Clean battery contacts before installing new ones.
- Cleaning: Use a mild cleaner (e.g., window cleaner) to clean the surface. Never use abrasive cleansers.
