Quick guide from the manual
This document provides essential information for the safe and efficient operation of the HiKOKI DN 14DSL and DN 18DSL cordless angle drills. Key procedures include battery charging, bit installation, and maintenance. Always follow the safety warnings to prevent electric shock, fire, or serious injury.
Device Description
The DN 14DSL and DN 18DSL are cordless angle drills designed for driving/removing wood screws and drilling into various metals and woods. They feature a keyless chuck (or keyed chuck depending on the model), an LED light, and a battery level indicator.
Battery Charging
Before using the tool, charge the battery using the specified charger (e.g., UC18YFSL or UC18YKSL). Connect the charger to a power outlet; the pilot lamp will blink in red. Insert the battery firmly. The pilot lamp will light continuously in red during charging and blink when charging is complete. If the lamp flickers, check for foreign objects in the battery connector.
Operation
- Battery: Remove and insert the battery as shown in Figure 1.
- Side Handle: Install or remove the side handle (Figure 3).
- Drill Bit: Mount the drill bit into the chuck and tighten the sleeve securely (Figure 9).
- Rotation: Use the switch to reverse the rotational direction (Figure 10).
- LED Light: Use the LED light for better visibility (Figure 8).
Maintenance and Inspection
- Tool Inspection: Sharpen or replace dull tools to maintain efficiency and prevent motor malfunction.
- Mounting Screws: Regularly inspect and tighten all mounting screws.
- Motor Maintenance: Keep the motor winding clean and free from oil or water.
- Carbon Brushes: Replace carbon brushes (HiKOKI Code No. 999054) when they reach the wear limit. Ensure they slide freely in their holders.
- Cleaning: Wipe the tool with a soft, dry cloth or a cloth moistened with soapy water. Do not use solvents like gasoline or paint thinner.
Safety Warnings
Always hold the tool by insulated gripping surfaces when working near hidden wiring. Secure the workpiece with clamps or a vice. Do not allow foreign matter into the battery connection hole. Never disassemble the battery or charger, and never short-circuit the battery terminals.
Troubleshooting
If the motor stops during operation, it may be due to the battery running out, tool overload, or overheating. Release the switch, eliminate the cause of the overload, and let the battery cool down if necessary before resuming work.

Practical help
Common problems
Battery may be empty (charge it), the tool may be overloaded (release switch and remove cause), or the battery may be overheated (let it cool down).
Check for foreign objects in the charger's battery connector. If none, the battery or charger may be malfunctioning; contact an authorized service center.
The charger's protection circuit may be activated. Unplug the charger, wait 30 seconds, and reconnect. If it still doesn't blink, contact an authorized service center.
Before use
- Ensure the work area is clean and well-lit.
- Check that the drill bit is securely mounted in the chuck.
- Verify the battery is fully charged.
- Ensure the rotational direction switch is set correctly.
- Check that all mounting screws are tight.
Specs in practice
- No-load speed
- The rotational speed of the drill without any load applied.
- Drill chuck capacity
- The maximum diameter of the drill bit shank that the chuck can hold.
Model compatibility
- Use only genuine HiKOKI batteries designated for these models.
- Carbon brush replacement requires HiKOKI Code No. 999054.
